Fine, but what about the message it sends to the others who work hard, do their jobs and play well (in training) - and who may actually be a better choice than the incumbent? A fair question, but it's all about getting in the side. Once you've made it, for whatever reason, then you're in for as long as you play well and/or the team does well. If someone misses a game and they lose their place because the team wins and everyone plays well, that's a much better message than 'ok you did everything I asked when you came in, but Ruben's much better so you're out' I reckon. The former shows the player he must work hard and wait for his chance, the latter tells the player that the other guy will always be picked which will kill his motivation. Being manager requires a careful balance of many things, not least keeping the whole squad motivated.

I say it like it is...........And say, I read a post and if it gets finished in my opinion is an interesting, fair, logical post or response, then I usually look at the name..............and to be fair mate, in my opinion you have a lot of good things to say Big Up

Yes, but there are some other variables, and what comes to my mind is the idea of horses for courses: is a given defence more susceptible to fast movement and change, or is it poorly equipped to deal with a big man banging in headers from crosses? Will we have to concede possession or will they cede possession to us? Is the other team predominantly skilful, like Citeh, or physical, like Huddersfield? And so on.

It's difficult. JimmyMac had a great game , his no look pass to AT for the first goal was absolute quality. Cabaye had an excellent game, somehow he seemed a bit fitter, previous games this year he was often second to the ball and gave away a lot of fouls. RLC is a real quality player who should be starting. Punch is as already said going to be a squad player now. Originally posted by Aray
Well, well overdue. But Punch was never a central midfielder - play him on the the left where his one-footedness doesn't hold him back as much. Or if needed play him as a No. 10 - that worked for a while. But we have several players better in the centre of the park. As for Benteke...Lets see how long our current set up works for before we write him off. He will have to be a lot hungrier to get back in the side if we can repeat Saturday's performance.

just seen this and agree, Schulpp out RLC in Still concerned PVA thinks he is a forward and we need extra cover on left, Wilf did that against Chelsea Originally posted by eag-les
Without a shadow should be the same as Saturday but with RLC in for Jeffrey. Great setup and the best ive seen for a long time

You should always stick with a winning team when the performance is good. Sends the right message to everyone that if they work hard, do their jobs and play well, they play the following week. I agree, there’s no harm in having rlc on the bench if he’s been injured, he’s an option if things aren’t going well and also puts pressure on others to perform. Same as fosu mensah, Ward knows he has to perform now as he has competition!

Of course, none of us know how long Bentekkers has been carrying his injury, prior to it actually needing his absence... as we all know, he's looked off the pace for weeks before going awol and the club aren't going to,admit he's carrying an injury, are they. I doubt we'll ever really know. His knee was taped for both the Citeh & Man U games but that doesn't mean that was the start of it.
Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five! |

Yes you stick with a winning team, and if a player plays well he shouldn't be dropped, however, the counter that, I remember Marriapa played well when called upon, when Ward was suspended or injured, or one of our CBs, but poor ol' Marriapa was forever dropped soon as one of our regulars was back and fit. Point was, they were better players, or at least management thought so at the time. Its a hard one.

If RLC has been out injured then we should stick with the same team and bring him for a twenty to thirty minutes at the end to get more fitness. Jeff seems to be the obvious player to be replaced, but that depends on the game. Changes also depend on the closeness on the game (IMHO). Also, is closeness a word?
