It just wasn't possible 20 years ago except for dinner parties if no filtering took place. What clusterfvck evenings some of them were Yeah yeah, you'd be following me around like an expectant puppy if you knew me. A bit like Scotland with England.

General is where people come to disagree rather than meaningfully exchange ideas. It's the same across most online formats really. There is something about in person interactions that results in people being, dare I say it, reasonable and actually willing to exchange ideas rather than just yell at each other. It's harder to dream up a one dimensional version of a person when they're in 3D and so compromise takes place, which is of course an important aspect of life, not that you'd know it in these crazy times.

Consequently it's struggling to find any shape whatsoever, is stuffed full of time-rich pompossisists who can spend days on end going round and round with no end result, but who line up for the next thread ready to start the cycle all over again. Fair enough really.

Most certainly, I know many people who have taken great joy in family and children. I'm a big fan of joy, freeing ourselves through the realisation of the futility of existence isn't about suicide or despair, but allowing us to embrace those fragile joyful moments, knowing that they are fleeting, and unique. There is no point about worrying about what happens when you die. Everything that makes up what we are, has always existed, and will continue to exist, we're just a transitory phase in space and time, that happens to be self aware. We are all comprised of the material that makes stars, and matter that consists entirely of sub-atomic particles that have always existed, and will always exist.

The point of General Talk (which is what you asked) seems to be for the same half dozen people to try and verbally bash each other senseless on every single thread thus ensuring that the majority of HOLers who might have something to say, stay well away. There should be two General Talk forums with the first exclusively for nickgusset, hedgehog50, Hrolf The Ganger and two or three more to argue with each other until the cows come home and a second forum for the rest of us who might want to discuss issues without the rabble rousers involved Don't encourage us. We are just sad b******s with too much spare time on our hands. It's all just recreation. Well apart from nickgusset. His soul burns red with lefty zealotry. The truth is that this is likely but unknowable. Our knowledge of our physical reality is still far too limited to know.
