Personally, any year at this level is a bonus for me as historically we are a solid 'second tier' club. If we were talking about relegation to League 1 then i'd also 'have the hump' but when i look at the amount of larger teams below us, i'm more than happy.
We're a small club in a big league and until we can relocate then we always will be just that, imo.
Is Steve perfect? Of course not. But he's the best we've had for a bloody long time.

I'm sorry TUX but this the sort of mentality that we need to leave in the past. 5 years in this league and we should be settling into it by now.

And you also mentioned relocation - that's even more cobblers spouted by Parish just because he thinks it'll keep the fans quiet for a while.

I don't pretend to know what our net spend has been since promotion, but I'd have thought that starting to replace a stand or two could have begun by now, thus getting some decent infrastructure in place to try to move on.

You've fallen into a serious negative funk it would seem. You now can't see the wood for the trees. We can't get building permission for new stands, a new stadium or a new anything at Selhurst.
They've done a good job of tarting up the internals of the main stand. A very good job they have done as well. The cladding at the back makes it look a lot more respectable as well. So they have done stuff that you are probably over looking now because of the negative state of mind you find yourself in about the club/board/team right now. This isn't a dig btw, just saying how I think you and a lot of fans might be feeling at the moment.

For all those on here who continue to defend Steve Parish no matter what and worship him like a god, who was to blame for releasing Frazier Campbell before we appointed a new manager? who was to blame for the fact that we did not sort out a replacement striker (or 2 strikers - given the injury to Wickham as well!!) during the whole of the summer transfer window. Who was at fault for the collapse of the Niasse transfer right at the last minute?? Even if the agent was playing hardball with his fee (surely the long term benefits of staying in this megabucks league would have been worth it)

Now Benteke could be out for two months!!! We really are well and truly in the brown stuff. The chickens have come home to roost

As far as I'm aware, the first point has been addressed before - the decision on who would be released at the end of the season were taken by the management in at that time to free up,squad places and wages. SP has stated on more than one occasion that he'd rather FC had stayed.

Second point is clear, it was the agents (both of them) fault - they tried to hold both clubs to ransom as they thought they were onto a good thing & both clubs told them to get lost. You could argue it's worth taking the hit but if you start down the road of giving in to what is essentially blackmail then you end up the same way with every transfer.

SP & the entire management have screwed up yes, but these two issues are not as straight forward as you state.

The easiest solution would surely have been to find a way to fund the Cenk deal & I still don't get why we couldn't.

Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five!

Read a report somewhere that the Besiktas president is pleased that Tosun didn't join us and that he will join another PL team in Jan to fulfill his PL dream. Seemed a bit narky and was definitely having a dig at us. Perhaps this is why we didn't manage to get this deal over the line?

Probably narked at us because we argued over an extra £9.50 ?

Not at all BG. I've followed this club through a lot of shyte since the early seventies and never has there been a better opportunity to establish ourselves in the big league. As for a bit of cladding and a bit of tarting up, I think they call that polishing a turd.

It's strange how every other club can develop. I'm sure Croydon Council want to keep a Premier league team in the borough, so someone somewhere isn't applying enough pressure to get planning permission.

He's got the physicality, pace and skill and looks to be adaptable. Just might not be experienced in the specific skills of the centre-forward and we might need to play to his feet rather than his head. Play Zaha and Townsend on the wings and we should score goals all right. Bakary Sako's goal in the league cup was pretty much a gift but Tekers in current form would probably have fluffed it.

I've just been reading a report where Conte says he likes Ruben as striker.

My mentality is honest, based on what i see.
As for cobblers?
We are not an attractive proposition for many PL players. 25,000 capacity in, as much as i love Selhurst, a s*** stadium by todays standards.
I was part of the 52k and have many good memories of the place but i also look to the future re-football. So do many of todays 'yoof' that you'd like us to sign.
We are a small fish in a big pond and will always be until we relocate..............imo.

The solution would be to not leave it until the last day and hour. If we did pay the agents what they wanted then any who tried that before the final day we could tell them to stuff it as long as we have other options, although obviously I wouldn't hold my breath on us doing either.
