They should never have been granted a license in the first place.

Am quite surprised about the backlash I'm reading here. I feel uber is like flying Ryanair (bad time to say that?) sometimes I even have to direct them to my house, fact is a journey is 1/3 of the price of a black cab which I simply cannot afford. Simplicity of getting a cab via app also a massive plus.
I want to support the black cabbies but they are so expensive! I can never afford to take one. I'm sure a lot of Londoners are in the same boat.

Corruption in our bastion of democracy? Surely not ;-)

f***ing good job, I'll never understand some people's mentality, you wouldn't have your boiler or electrics installed by someone who isn't qualified but are quite happy to get in a car driven by some goat shagger from the backend of nowhere

Hey Meester... you'll never guess what I had in the back of my cab last week...

You fed me, you bred me, I'll remember your name.

I think this is a poor decision. Uber is an application nothing more. All Uber drivers good through the same licensing procedures as other taxi drivers as required by TfL. They have been scapegoated for the actions of individuals who use their app, yes the crimes of sexual assault are deplorable, but taxi drivers and sexual assault didn't start with Uber, and won't end with it either.

I don't know exactly how many Uber drivers there are but lots, and given the amount of trips that are taken by Uber, what will this do to the taxi industry? This action threatens the livelihood of the drivers, some of whom will have borrowed money to improve their cars, and have mortgages to pay etc.

Undoubtedly this will drive up prices, on which there has been a downward pressure whilst there has been an improvement in vehicles.

With Uber set to challenge this ruling this will only end up costing an awful lot of money.

I feel the same way. It's easy to use, and affordable for me where black cabs aren't always. If it all goes up in smoke, as per usual it'll be the poor that feel it most.

I think the mindset is different because most of us aren't qualified electricians or boiler fitters but most of us are qualified to drive a car and can use a sat nav to avoid traffic. I don't mean to knock the skill set of the qualified cabbies but in reality given a choice most consumers will go for the cheaper option. Only taken a dozen uber rides or so but have never had a problem and always found the drivers interesting and polite, several have been refugees with fascinating stories to tell. Would hate to see black cabs disappear but

(Contd) they have to compete with Uber's service

I agree, it's an ill fitting comparison.

Black cabs are more expensive, but when I go out I like to arrive at the destination not stinking to high heaven of a West Croydon eatery.
