His game has been on the decline for 2 seasons. Would be good cover in the position but needs to be dropped now. I lost count of the poor passes, crosses, positional defensive lapses etc etc today. Simply not good enough although he wasn't on his own as Schlupp was caught out of position 5 or 6 times.

Ward & Puncheon have got to be replaced. DEF should be Fosu-Mensah

Ward's a decent defender on his day, but yes, he needs replacing. But looks to me like his confidence is shot as he was decent last week. Even so that RB position should be TFM's every time.

I don't get the anti Joel Ward brigade. Been a steady and reliable player for us for years and continues to be. Very experienced defender and rarely puts a foot wrong. He's been played out of position often at LB in the past and under FDB at RWB, you can't blame someone for not performing to their best in an unfamiliar position - that's the managers fault for putting him there. TFM is clearly more of a CB than an RB which is why he is playing at CB. I'm sure a recently read that no other outfield player played more minutes than Ward last season in the Premier League- that stat speaks for itself. Ward will continue to play at RB under Hodgson because he's our best player there. All our previous managers have also agreed. There are far bigger problems with our squad than this.

I know one of the issues with FdB was that he may not have thought Delaney, Kelly and Ward were good enough and that did not go down well in certain quarters. Sadly for the players, their inability to pass the ball or adapt to new systems was clear when Pardew tried getting us to play football. Even Benteke looks as if he's struggling - and that must be a worry. People have said we have no cover for CB - well I'd drop him for lack of effort. Without Wilf we really not pose too many threats and we miss Yannick Bolasie.

Joel Ward is a fine professional and a credit to the business, but he is - and has not been - PL standard for most of the last two seasons. Slow, bad passer & crosser of the ball, out of position to mention a few. I really hope Roy H. place Fosu-M there for rest of season - or pick some player from Under-23. Or both....

At least Roy now knows how poor he is. The defining moment yesterday must have been his attempt at a Cruyff turn where he was dispossessed and then had to wrestle the player to the ground right in front of the dugout must be the end for him

He works hard and really tries for the team, but he only looks comfortable now in games where we sit deep. His lack of pace has been exploited in most games so far this season and his crossing and link-up play when going forward has been pretty poor. I'm curious to know why he has turned down a new contract. I couldn't see another PL team taking him on so it can't be money or progression. Was it just the Frank issue?

A few seasons ago I raised this point and expressed reservations about Ward in the PL and brimstone came my way with some advocating that he should receive an England call-up ! The poor lad is being badly exposed at the top level, but he gives his all for the cause and never shirks a challenge so 'Hats off' to him in this respect.
