It really is small margins, isn't it. According to stats we had more and better chances against both Huddersfield and Swansea, and benteke could have got us a point against Liverpool. Anyone who watched the Ipswich game could see what a different team we were when we took the lead. Trouble is getting that lead.. Those stats are rubbish then. Huddersfield had about 6 very good chances whereas we had 2. I reckon the stats don't include the one on ones that were stopped by ward and Mensah. We could've been 1-0 down after 2 minutes, had the Zaha chanced screwed wide and then didn't threaten until 2-0 down in the 2nd half with the opposition retreating. Same v Swansea. All our chances, well good chances, came after Swansea went 2-0 up and retreated.

All our chances, well good chances, came after Swansea went 2-0 up and retreated. It is worth noting that the 'expected goals' data suggests that Palace had the better chances in both of those home defeats. "We created chances," said Andros Townsend. "You can talk about formations all day long but we need to start putting it away," De Boer agreed. "They had two half-chances and scored both times," he said of the Swansea defeat. It underlines the fact that these are small margins and the sample size is pitifully small. Must admit de Boer clutching at straws...as you say they could have been 2 0 up afret 2 mins. Having said that, both goals were terrible defending by Kelly. ...

Freedman is 'Sporting Director' rather than 'Director of football' but in essence the roles can be similar dependant on the 'Terms of Reference' at respective clubs.Accordingly what a SD does at one club can be similar to what a DOF does at another. I don't know the specifics in terms of Freedman but I have added a link which might offer an explanation as to the role in general : Who cares what the official title is / does

There's been a lot of debate about possession, courage on the ball etc but to my eye the equal problem is how poorly organised we look when the other team have the ball or put it into the box. Even defending corners and set pieces. Considering de Boer was a world class defender we've looked a shambles and should have conceded more. Sticking a pair of inexperienced 19 year olds in a previously untried back three hasn't got too much to do with football philosophy more just reckless and stupid.

I don't have a problem with Fosu-Mensah, he looks class. Riedewald looks like Kelly after a night out. He might be OK if Sakho is standing next to him I suppose.
