The reason he was happy to sit there was because he was on 50,000 a week. I'd sit and collect that pay packet. Our problem as a club has been buying players on a free and paying huge wages which means they never leave. Worked hard, but I think we needed someone new.

Was he? I was always under the idea that he was on about £20k/wk

How many times have you seen him play in the flesh mate? I must have seen every minute he played in red and blue live and he was harshly criticised. Even if you don't rate him, surely it makes sense to have had him with 0 cost and use the spare 8 million on a good goalkeeper?

Especially given that we can't manage to fill in transfer forms properly.

Good luck.

"You point"? Typo which I'll forgive you for because I'm a nice guy. Dumb? I thought that meant you can't speak? Now then tuxy are you just struggling with the complexity of the situation? I refer you back to a previously deleted thread on the definitions regarding idiots, cretins and stupidity. If you can dig it out it might be quite enlightening although you may need to ask the mods for a favour to find it(pre premier league I believe).

Comedy thread of the season. He wasn't even good enough as a back up option to the squad.

I think the issue was he was on something like £55k per week. I'd like to think if he'd been on less we'd have kept him.

His contract ended so simply offer him £20k a week. Might have accepted it on a one year deal.

As far as I'm concerned Campbell wasn't the best striker in the world but he put in a shift every time he played.

I always say, I can forgive a lack of talent but not a lack of effort and he never disappointed me on that front.

But, all you smarty pants fans, what back up do we have this morning?

No, whatever his shortcomings he was a trained centre forward. Now when Benteke is out, we have no alternative beyond trying an unknown option.

Dear oh dear.

Because we let a player go we can't sign another.

We'll have to sign a free agent who's at least marginally better than Campbell. You make it sound impossible.

Really wasn't my experience of watching him play. Fair play to Campbell, as he'd spent his entire career around premiership teams - but even when he played as a centre forward his record was s**t. He didn't create chances, goals or score them with any real frequency.

Now if you were talking Cameron Jerome (also a Palace forward, on loan, who couldn't score) I'd say, fair enough, he create a lot of chances, could hold the ball up and was perfect for bringing in the midfield.

But Campbell, I'd rather have seen Calvin Andrew or Wayne Andrews back. At least they were cheap.

Well when the option is someone who is well below par (I'd say s**t but that's probably unfair) and giving someone else a try, I'd rather see us give someone a chance.

Granted they could be worse. But then being worse than a striker who is very poor, isn't much of a risk.

I'd give Ladapo a try before worrying about Campbell.

I've seen him play about 15-20 times, I've even seen him score. A premiership striker sold for 950k says most of what you need to know. He was worse than the man he replaced (Cameron Jerome on loan from Stoke).
