I am amazed that people on here seek to criticise Parish after his record with us. He is categorically the best Chairman we've ever had, because he has the genuine interests of the club at heart - as all of us do.
Having said that this transfer window has been difficult and my suspicion is it is to do with salaries. We have a number of high salary players and we will break FFP rules if we bring too many high salary players in. I suspect that at the same time as Liverpool etc are pushing up the price of Sakho etc we are also finding it difficult to sell some the squad players we don't want such as Mutch, Bakary Sakho, Chungy etc. We may also be looking to sell off someone like Andros to free up wages, but are also trying to maximise his value.
This happened last summer when we got a lot of money for Bolasie which allowed us to buy Benteke. The problem is that all these things need to wait until the vinegar stroke of the transfer window until they happen.
Only two things will change this issue - transfer window closing before the season starts and/or the ground gets redeveloped and increases our income considerably which in turn will give us more funds in the transfer market. If you want to vent your frustration try Sainsbury's and the idiots on the planning committee of Croydon Council.
Have faith - we will get Sakho and a few others over the line in the next few days and then it will be down to whether FDB is a good hire or not. If not we will replace him in good time as we have done before, but FFS lay off Parish - he really is our biggest asset.

Neither of these statements stand up to scrutiny.

Cannot hold on to a manager; has sanctioned the purchase of too many sub standard players; has made very little progress on planning matters/ground development; hides when the going gets tough; and has lost ground vs so many other clubs such as Burnley, Bournemouth, Watford etc.

And the constant procrastination has been painful. By all accounts it takes him until dinner time to decide what he wants for breakfast.

By a rational assessment he appears the common denominator in our failure to "kick on".

Jackson.. Wan Bissaka.... Sansom.. Nicholas.. Cannon.. Guehi.... Zaha... Thomas.. Byrne... Holton.. Rogers.. that should do it..

How dare you question Parish....He saved the club back in 2010. He can walk on water and shoot lighting bolts out of his arse as well.

I agree Parish isn't solely to blame but he has to take a huge amount of criticism not only for the appointment but time it took. Although this will never really happen as too many want to constantly defend him solely on saving the club in 2010.

And he is in a similar position now, If he gets rid of Frank now he becomes a bigger joke than he currently is. In my opinion Steve Parish is the problem rather than the Solution. How could he appoint a manager who believes in free flowing football to then not support him in the transfer market, It makes no sense whatsoever. And now we will probably wait until transfer deadline day, and as best bring in a couple of players that will not improve the squad, He can possibly recover the situation by bringing in Sakho & proven striker and a keeper that does not keep fumbling the ball and hesitating whenever there is I any pressure. I am passionate about my club and the
position we are in season after season hurts, And i can see no way forward unfdr this leadership

I'm with you on that. I don't want to rush to judgment this early in the session, but at the same time I can't help but feel that this headless chicken approach has done us damage.

I have heard people say that the board has failed to back FdB in the transfer market, but does anyone have any concrete examples of players he's asked for and been refused?

The only player I keep hearing talk of is Sakho, and I think Parrish is keener on him than FdB is!

Anyone heard anything (because I don't think I have)?

I think these people are looking at the transfer spend and the signings and making assumptions. But the 'Window' is still open !

We regretfully wouldn't as he has been injured. On that note does anyone know if he has recovered? I looked at the Liverpool Physio Room page and he isn't showing, so assume he is back.

IMO he should act now, then employ somebody who can help him run the club because again IMO he is a little out of his depth now. I was a 100% SP man but I am now seeing so much lack of progression it is very worrying.

I think we're progressing, we're definitely better than we were first day of the season. It was individual mistakes that gifted Liverpool one goal, and Swansea two.

The question really is a) how long will that progression take and is it viable, and b) to what degree can it be achieved.

But trying to 'progress' is always a gamble. Big Sam and Tony Pulis, made their name in this game, not by 'progressing' the team, but from achieving stability of results.

What is at the core of the difference between their styles, is the emphasis of 'progressing' on improving win rates (or point ratios) which means taking greater risks. Its also the same style that 'bigger clubs' play.

But any team needs time to adapt to a very different style because you're trying to reprogram peoples reactive behaviour, and that takes a lot of repetition.

The kind of guerrilla football of Pulis and Allerdyce is founded on a defensive strategy which is risk averse. Getting a team to adapt to this kind of strategy is much easier, because this is probably more about how they learned to play football early in their career, you're not teaching them something new but something they've got instincts for.

Learning to play a defensive three, with two wing backs, is a massive ask, not just of the back three, but also for the wing backs / full backs. Especially when they've probably never really played that style in anger except when chasing a game.

If we're looking to 'progress' and buy next 'level players' then we'll not be signing them until the window is close to, or closing. Their agents and best interest is in seeing exactly what the best offers on the table will be, and they're in no real rush to sign - they're likely under contract, earning good money somewhere else and the prospect of earning slightly more in the first few weeks of the season, compared to missing out on being able to leverage their wages isn't worthwhile.

After all, even if we offered someone twice their current salary, why would they jump at the chance, when their agent has other interested parties who may make a similar or better offer.

How do you know this is what has happened ? FdB might of said that he could adapt the squad already here to play in a different style ? I expect the reality is somewhere inbetween. Both felt that a transformation could occur but with limited funds and the players already here. Can't see Parish giving funds for a whole clearout of the current squad particularly in the crazy transfer market at the mo where players like Johnnie Evans are rated @ £23 million, or FdB saying that is required.

No one is calling for a total clear out of players. We have a good squad, But its apparent with 68 goals conceded last year that we need something in defence, and with ony one out and out centre forward, I think anyone can see the need for another target man, ,And with our keeper doing impressions of superman flying through the air I think we need a slightly more competent keeper. No disrespect to the current squad, but things move on and you go nowhere by standing still and hoping all will be ok, If you cant see the need for new blood in the squad, i am puzzled

Personally I am going by interviews he has done, particularly on US radio in June before FdB was appointed where he revealed he'd agreed with Sam to sign "one possibly two players in the summer but now we are looking for a new manager it might be three possibly four"

He did other tv spots before Sam left talking about how Sam had spent some of the summer budget and we could not spend in the summer like we did in January.

You can join the dots and get a rough approximation of our situation and why Sam left.
