To do what he would like to do would cost £100 mil to do it properly and safely right now. He wants to play 3-4-3 because that's the trend and is what the top 7 managers are playing. Well we're not top 7 but bottom 7. Either it's ignoring what squad are and aren't capable of or it's a very poor appraisal. More the former than the latter with the haste Frank decided on committing to 3-4-3. This is where the perception of stubbornness has come from. How can you say he is stubborn, after only one competitive game?

You seriously have to question that statement. There doesn't appear any evidence to support it, Sam tried it for a couple of games but it didn't work and went back to a solid 4. All that's been added is a young centre back who has never played in England and a young guy from Utd who hasn't had many first team games. They both played in the 3 man defence. I'm not surprised he got stick for those decisions but most of all the way we played. It's now up to him to turn things around.
The ups and downs of Palace have left me older than my years |

Yeah, I agree that 3-4-3 doesn't suit us and it was foolish to try it out at this time, but a lot of doom-mongers are assuming we're sticking with it regardless of results. If the Swansea performance ends up the same as the Huddersfield one, I can see us switching to 4-3-3 over the international break.

How can you say he is stubborn, after only one competitive game? Right, I haven't said HE IS stubborn. I have said 'if he turns out to be' or 'proves he is stubborn'. Some others have said similar. But you cannot tell me he hasn't ploughed ahead with a formation that clearly doesn't suit the players we had when we were 6 players short of playing it, and being well aware that our net spend available was an approximate maximum of £30 million. I think from all of that you can understand the concern from many. If a new work boss came in and made a bizarre or strange change in direction or diversification without taking any time to be sure, I bet a lot of people would be rightly concerned as well. I think people are just angry, angry that someone has come to Palace and is trying to change our DNA (wtf).

What we have definitely missed for years is a number 10 and 100% concentration and faultless defending, not a formation change that doesn't suit our players and requires 6+ players. Incidentally the player receiving the knock down we don't even have. Attacking mid/number 10, whoever.

As far as I'm concerned, and I'm sure many other as well, this has nothing to do with so-called "DNA", it's about changing overnight to a system that we are patently unfitted for and do not currently have the funds to employ the personnel to make it work. I couldn't give a flying what bloody formation we play as long as it produces points on the board, and it's clear this isn't going to work anytime soon with the squad we have. As for the "one game" argument I, amongst many others, expressed an immediate concern about Frank's plans the day he arrived and nothing I've seen in pre-season or on Saturday has changed my mind. His pronouncement to the CA "I am very fond of 4-3-3 which I have played in all my life, but on the other side you have to look at your squad and I think that right now 3-4-3 is the best system" has all the hallmarks of someone who's been smoking some of Amsterdam's finest.
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |
