Don't play 3-4-3 and we'll probably be alright this time. Play it and I'm not sure. Last season we threw away too many points vs West Brom and Bournemouth at home with Spurs away in between. Left us with 1 point from 9 and near enough bottom. Pardew's amateur approach and lack of fitness were a factor, but I'll never forget the frustration at the Holmesdale end when defending a corner vs Bournemouth in the 1st half and the team all over the shop.

We can't be complacent vs the poorer sides in this easier start. The aim is to progress away from the bottom, not make it difficult for ourselves to do so.

Exactly play 4-3-3 until at least he brings in a cb that de Boer prefers

I am also suspect of 3-4-3 if I am being honest about what I feel...I love to be optimistic but right now until I see how we are going to play it a few more times I am slightly worried.

That is of course based on the current squad. Further additions may easily sway me the other way and I may end up more confident than ever. I do like FdB and I do believe he can get the best out of players. I am not certain where Fosu-Mensah will fit in but I do believe he is a good loan signing.

I would prefer we didn’t play Luka at CB.
I would like a top quality upgrade at right back.
I don’t want to see Kelly play for Palace ever again.

If these things happen then thumbs up from me.

Did you not watch Martin Kelly play at Centre Half against Arsenal and Liverpool. ?

Yes Milivojevic and Townsend is no RWB or indeed defender of any sort.

Kelly is perhaps league one standard at best with the ball at his feet. He is by far the worst player for hoofing the ball forward and losing possession, for me at this level that is unacceptable.

I can accept he defends well two games per season but giving away possession at the rate he does, puts the entire team under more pressure than it needs to be.

Sorry but it's happened now for too long. Last season Benteke didn't arrive until after 2 games. Imagine them points had cost us the place in the premier league.

But you gotta look at it another way, teams like Burnley below will never go for players like Benteke, why not? I mean, they can feasibly earn just as much as us, as far as I know we have won one minor cup, they may have won plenty years ago, whose the bigger club?

the only difference I guess is our chairmen puts his hand in his pocket for bigger names who can hopefully make us achieve something major like Europe or FA cup, but other smaller clubs around us don't seem to have such high hopes as far as I can see.

With that in mind, because of the type of players we are after, ever so much in demand by even bigger clubs than us, of course these transfers take time.

If we simply go in for players like Ashley Barnes, then we may get things done within 24 hrs.

But do we want tht level of player?

We are about to embark on our record 5th season in the top flight.
Be positive.

Agree with you Alan. Cue more hol meltdown as soon as we drop a point or don't go the entire season undefeated. How many fans across the divisions would love to be in our position. Quite a few I think.

Been to Anfield twice seen 14 goals and my team haven't scored any

Good post.

The only business I think I'd be desperate to do is get a second striker in just in case Tekkers gets deliberately taken out the first week after the transfer window closes.

Potentially starting a defensive midfielder at cb because of lack of signings.

We have a large selection of central defenders to choose from. Perhaps Milivojevic has been tried there to see how well he does

That's a risk that no-one in their right mind would take

I too would like a CB, reserve striker & RWB in, but balancing that is the fact that, so far, we have not lost/sold anyone we would have wanted to use. I'd say that can be as important as who we buy. Imagine if Wilf had left/leaves for Spurs etc etc.

How do you suggest that we change this then, given the transfer window closes in a few weeks? Why do you think people might not be jumping to sign for us immediately?
