So, if Tomkins was still at West Ham and playing same form as when we bought him , would we consider him a good buy today?

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

I doubt de Boer would buy him, like big Sam didn't fancy/favour James mcarthur. It's similar with de Boer and Tomkins. We have to remember new managers have new ideas.

He's still a good PL level CB, though not necessarily as a starter. I think he would be worth his seat on the bench

I rate Tomkins, higher than dann if I'm honest but with de Boer still looking to bring in defensive options, can we afford a player on big money to not be first choice.

Yes because if we improve the first 11 a good player will always drop to the bench.
And therefore will be on a high wage.
E.G. Dann and Jimmy Mac when Mamadou and Luka joined.

That was before I had seen any pre season. I've only come to this conclusion as de Boer hasn't even given Tomkins a start in pre season instead preferring Luka who isn't a cb and stated he's not comfortable. He may stay but he's future doesn't look like it's at Palace in my opinion. Also the thought that even with the signing of fosu- Mensah de Boer wants another defender. If so where does this leave Tomkins. He one of the biggest earners at Palace, can we afford to pay him 65k to be a reserve.

Tomkins is the best passer of a ball from the defenders we had at the end of last season so to make an assumption he could be on his way out is tenuous to say the least. He's more than likely still carrying the knock he got in Hong Kong..Cabaye hasn't played for similar reasons

It is a continual criticism that our squad doesn't have enough depth. Now we have Dan69 suggesting we sell all players that are any good, but not currently selected as they are on too much money.
Then in another topic is suggesting we buy United's overpaid reserves like Young?

I stated recently on here that I felt Dann was better than Tomkins. I also feel that Tomkins only had a good run when playing along side Sakho (and hey who wouldn't, Sakho could make any defensive partner look good). I think there will be players going and I wouldn't be too disappointed if Tomkins was one of them.

There's centre backs that are good as the '2nd centre back', like Cahill with Terry. Terry was always the main man and Cahill was always very good with him. I think Tompkins is the same , was outstanding when he was playing number 2 to sakho, but I don't think he could be the dominant one in a centre back pairing. Dann doesn't have the personality to be the main man. If Sakho was to return Tompkins would be the better man for him to play with. I like him think he's decent, but we need a dominant centre back to play in the middle of a 3.

Last time I checked this is a discussion board. If you actually read my previous posts. I've stated I rate Tomkins and wouldn't want him to be sold , however with de Boer looking to bring in further defensive recruits , will de Boer sacrifice him. The reason he left West Ham is the lack of starts. I'd imagine the 3cbs will be fosu- Mensah, dann and reidewald therefore unless injuries can we afford a player on 45k+ a week as a reserve. We not Chelsea, we can afford subs on that kind of money.

Of course we can, if we don't waste more money on silly purchases like A Young.
Its known as building a squad, supplementing your existing established higher earners with young hungry players on lower wages.

here you go again why? so Tomkins now on 45K when you started this he was on 65k and you say we can't afford that, the avg wage in the premier league is maybe around these figures you're quoting i don't know if that is true or not but as i said to you we will not be selling Tomkins or Dann.
