Yes, they (MU) have come a very long way since going out of existence, reforming to play in fields and at other non league grounds around Kent then eventually returning to a new ground in Maidstone.

Crap mate. If Maidstone people want to see a PL match they are not banned from doing so on any Saturday. FDB NEEDED to see his players playing, their manager NEEDED them to have a decent challenge for their next season (Not a Trouncing) and that was a perfect venue. The first 11 would have murdered them 0-15 and that wouldn't have been beneficial or nice for them on such an occasion.

The issue was that they sold tickets on the basis of it being a palace first team. Both websites advertised this until FDB announced three days before it wasn't. Now I don't care as I would've gone regardless but to hear some young palace fans on the walk there talk about how excited they were to see benteke and zaha for the first time in real life was saddening! Their parents had clearly bought tickets based on the advertising and we then moved the goalposts and in doing so shattered their dreams! Really poor move by palace- the kind of thing I'd expect from Chelsea or Man Utd, not us.

I agree that it should've been made clearer and earlier than it was that it wouldnt be a full strength squad...but it's been known for at least 6weeks that we were going to Hong Kong...so what were people expecting? Us to play and U23 side against Prem teams in favour of playing a full strength one against Maidstone Utd...that's laughable.

Oh come on, the Asia Trophy is nonsense ... full stop. Crystal Palace football club let down Maidstone United ... fact. Nothing more to be said about it. All I am saying is "don't pretend you are something you are not". I thought we were better than that.

Since when do Palace owe it to their supporters to field our multi-million pound first eleven? Whose venue was it anyway? Who was responsible for the advertising? Who wanted a magnificent 4,000 capacity stadium filled? Palace? Or MU? Get back to reality mate! It wa THEIR venue, THEIR advertising, THEIR supporters and THEIR (comparitively) windfall profit. If the supporters were conned it was the MU hierarchy that were more to blame.

Er ... since Palace voluntarily accepted an open invitation to participate in MU's 5th Anniversary celebrations. Palace shouldn't have taken it up. There was absolutely no pressure on Palace to do anything so why not take it seriously or just keep out of it? I've supported Palace man and boy and I did find it very embarrassing. Quite sad to hear the kids asking their dads which ones were Zaha and Benteke. In my experience of organising events nothing ever gets to the printers without an OK from both sides. No excuses, it was a poor show from our club. If you've ever attended these sort of things the stars usually just make a token appearance and sign autographs. Not a competitive game but family fun. True, Palace didn't even have to field the U23's we could have sent a few shirts and asked the crowd to make up a team. Perhaps next time if everyone is too busy? In the meantime, let's all get excited by the upcoming Asia Trophy ... anyone going?

In the meantime, let's all get excited by the upcoming Asia Trophy ... anyone going? 'INVITATION', exactly. You've made my point well. They obviously invited Palace to field the team of Palace's choice, NOT just the first 11. I doubt whether Palace were invited to only field their first 11 and then reneged - THAT, if you can prove it, would be a disgrace and support your ire. Maidstone Utd obviously decided to advertise Palace with some big names to sell the tickets I strongly suggest. The people were there I also suggest to watch a competitive football match more than just some big names from the PL, and to hopefully see their team do well. If the Palace under-23s beat them 1-3, goodness knows what the senior squad would have done! And that would not have been appropriate or nice for the 5th anniversary. End of the day, Maidstone Utd were in charge of the event, NOT Palace, and if Palace have cheated them then we should be reading about it but we are not. Now let's end this stream, TY.

It appears that the reason the 1st team didn't play was due to it being a 3G surface and they were concerned it may lead to injuries prior to flying out. It wasnt even a full strength U23 squad either with 9 left out and a number of 17yr olds playing!
