Heard Oliver's Army on the radio the other day. The whole station should be sacked.

Says out little socialist predictably. We need to move on from the past in more ways than one. Yea why not. We'll just forget it ever happened shall we and let people go on spouting bigotry without consequences.

She used a phrase. An outdated and offensive phrase but she didn't call someone the N word. She should be censured of course, but kicked out? I don't see you being quite so vocal about Jackie Walker and her ilk. I've not seen the Jackie Walker thread on HOL. Point me in its direction and will give my opinion.

This is a perfect opportunity for agenda outrage. Frankly, I don't think I've ever heard this phrase in my life. People from my grandmothers generation used the N word casually but it is obviously a denigrating term and therefore very impolite and especially inappropriate for an MP to use in public. You do have to wonder. I do think we need to get over reacting to words though. It is part of our evolution toward enlightenment. So in the word 'c***', but that is sprinkled around this site like confetti. The N word (God we are not allowed to even utter it) is historic, and should be recognised as such. People should not take offence, rather they should acknowledge their origins and stand proud of where they have come from since those dark days of exploitation. And yes, it remains a 'work in progress' for most ethic minorities.

She used an historically denigrating term in a strange context and it's done. Move on. Personally, I don't spend much time worrying about what Black people are offended by. I spend even less time worrying about what dopey, holier than thou, white people are offended by on other people's behalf.

It amazes me that this phrase is found offensive it's all about a piece of wood not a person.

She's my local MP and not a bad sort really but I can easily imagine her to come from a posh-ish background where that phrase was used in everyday speech back in the 50's and 60's. It was probably a throwback remark. My lovely old mum still says 'coloured' - bless her. Is "coloured" that bad? There's an African guy at work, probably the blackest guy I know (as if there was such thing as a grading system) and he said to me the other day "Bournemouth have signed that guy from Chelsea, you know, the tall coloured guy". I had to stifle a giggle.

Highlight the negative impacts that are specific to it like FGM and not stuff that is across the board within ethic and non-ethnic groups and a debating cul-de-sac like drug crime. So, what are these number of thing that you are offended by that the country has had to endure since modern immigration began?
