This must be ranked as one of the biggest tragedies in Europe for a long time. Many died in their cars as the flames swepts across roads so quickly.

Unfortunately it's with deep consternation that we've to mourn the loss of 62 human lives!
It's mind blowing imagine the horror which these People suffering...
Portuguese government declared 3 days of national grief.

It's a terrible event. How common are fires like these (perhaps without the loss of life) in Portugal?

Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune)

But Jeremy's brother seems to think that man made warming is a myth.
Do you find that embarrassing? His brother probably does, since it's another thing he can claim to be campaigning against in the name of 'hope' and 'the people'. It must be a bit wearing for him since he seems to have campaigned against almost every bill that was ever put before Parliament for the last 25 years.

I have all the intellect I need to see through you and your faux sympathy, as do many others it seems.

why are you politicising such a tragedy?
Pathetic.

Wonder how much man made climate change has to do with this.

Wow,having lived in Spain for 3 years, answer seen a fair few forest fires.

I can't remember any being blamed on climate change.
My sympathies goes to the victims and their families along with great respect for the firemen/women.

I.have witnessed one up close and they are terrifying.

always a Norwood boy, where ever I live.

Nick doesn't really believe that. It was just another Nick segue way into how Corbyn will save the world or, the evils of capitalism.

I was looking at the extreme temperatures in southern europe and thinking about it. You bought politics into it. Not everything is about Jeremy Corbyn, though for someone who doesn't like him, you do seem rather obsessed.

Now rather than following me from thread to thread hijacking it, how about engaging with the discussion at hand.

what are your thoughts looking into the future if this is to become more common for instance?

in 1990 I went to a greek island (thassos)
with a Cypriot mate & couple of girls
(top holiday)
a very large section of the island was toast ,miles of it, driving through what would have been a pine forest.
they are used to large temperatures and this s*** does happen but rarely with a loss of life to this degree.
I go to Portugal most years, their temperatures of 30's are different from ours, more intense.
Sad day for the Portuguese people.
wish some on here would wind their political necks in, its boring. very.
(Lament).
