Schlupp was our worst player on Sunday. Struggled all afternoon. Not the first time either. Defensively I'm not convinced by either of them but at least PVA bombs forward and knows where the goal is.

You watched another game pal. He was motm for me.

Cabaye wasted as a defensive mid. The last few months his been playing that number 10 role. Puncheon therefore dropped deeper in def mid role.

In fact I'd say that means two strikers required.

I said for the first team. We do need a back-up striker; hopefully Wickham is good to go so we'll only need the one.

We need Matteo to come up with those top-drawer bargains to replace Cabaye at number 8 if he's definitely off.

Matteo will inform you that Cabaye isn't actually a number 8; his tackling success rate means that he is technically a centre-back

Realism! We only have 25 places plus any U21 freebies
Assume we have £40m to spend

GK 13 Wayne Hennessey
GK 1 Julian Speroni
GK
RB 2 Joel Ward
RB
CB 6 Scott Dann
CB 5 James Tomkins
CB 34 Martin Kelly
CB
LB 3 Van Arnholt
LB 31 Schlupp
CDM 28 Luka Milivojevic
CDM
CM 16 Joe Ledley
CM 18 James McArthur
CAM 7 Yohan Cabaye
CAM 42 Jason Puncheon
LW 26 Bakary Sako
LW 14 Chung-yong Lee
RW 11 Wilfried Zaha
RW 10 Andros Townsend
ST 17 Christian Benteke
ST 21 Connor Wickham
ST 9 Fraizer Campbell
ST

I would sell or let go
30 Steve Mandanda
27 Damien Delaney
19 Zeki Fryers
22 Jordon Mutch
4 Flamini
8 Remy
Kwesi Appiah

I suspect that Papy won't be fit for a while let so I have left him out.

We should buy a CB (Sakho or Kone) and add a U21 CB (best of Innis/Phillips/Croll) for cover. £25-30m.

I think we will buy Carl Jenkinson this time around as RB unless anyone better pops up on the transfer market. £3m-8m.

I would buy a backup keeper obviously.£2-10m.

I would like to see either Hiram Boateng, Luke Dreher, Noor Husin or Kian Flannagan get their chance in midfield.

I would like to see Lapado, J Benteke or Keshi Anderson filling the final striker spot.

Sully Kaikai must get his big break at the expense of Chungy.

I think net spend this summer can't exceed 15m so some 'realistic' teams are actually fantasy. That's 15m in transfer plus accompanying wages. I could even envisage needing to have no net spend or negative net spend, though others are far more knowledgeable than me on this (lest anyone thinks I have ideas above my station).

Assuming 15m net...

Flog MacArthur*, Mutch and all dead wood for a miracle 20m, it's a mad market after all. *Not deadwood but needs must.

Begovic(5)

Ward Tomkins Sakho (30) PvA

Wilf Luka Townsend

Punch Cabaye

Benteke

I personally think the budget will be about 60m to cover wages and transfer fees. Newcastle are promised 100+m. Even Burnley spent 35m last season.

I hope you are right -- if that's an amount the club can pay without breaching FFP that would be great. I have my doubts. But if so, keep Jimmy Mac, get Anderlecht's right back Appiah, and Defoe if he's happy on the bench.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

Agreed, definitely think its time to give youth a run.
Heard good things about Boateng and Kaikai but they get no game time at all.
Havnt heard much about Inniss but 6'5 CB cant be too bad.

Not to keen on Jenkinson though, must be better RB's than him,
I am a big fan of pacey RB's and LB's.

Thinking of a CAM.
Hatem Ben Arfa has not had too much game time at PSG.
Seems to only come off the bench in the last 10 minutes.
Has unbelievable talent when on form.
Assume his wages would be high though.

All this talk of youth playing. Which is great in principle but with prize of staying in the division so high. Youth is not risked by most clubs with the exception of Southampton. There should be a pathway for youth to the first team but we can't select them because of their age and didnt our academy get downgraded to grade b. The have to be good enough at their current level to play.

Having just given Delaney a new one year contract we are hardly likely to leave him out of the squad of 25
