Have to say that my absolute dream team, would be, Guss Hiddink as manager, Butch Wilkins as assistant manager and Sam Lee as first team coach. Hiddink's last spell at Chelsea, as interim manager, was pretty poor and Uncle Fester hasn't worked as a coach for 18 months for a reason.

I think if we keep Lee then this may restrict choice of manager who will come. Roy and Dyche would accept probably but a foreign coach possibly not

You mean Ray Wilkins who said we didn't have a hope in hell of beating Liverpool just before the 1990 FA Cup semi-final, then later joined us and contributed about 20 minutes of football and who can now be seen at the side of the road taking a breath test?

I hold a grudge against a drunk driver who killed a cousin of mine twenty years ago, but come on, a guy who said we'd lose a football match twenty-seven years ago, let it go man.
has resisted writing a single post on the Ross McCormack thread !!! |

I think we should just give the friggin' manager's job to SL anyway. I bet he's champing at the bit to give management another go. He's in the system knows the players, clearly saw and hopefully learnt from big Sam what works and what doesn't. He worked wonders with Townsend and probably others too. Who knows just how much of our survival was down to him. I really hope he's in the mix.

There's been no suggestion that he's expressed an interest which may well be an indication that he's either not interested or doesn't rate his chances. He seems more of a natural deputy to me which probably explains why he's spent most of his post-playing career as an assistant. I can see no evidence to indicate that he has done enough to suggest he'd be more successful than those under consideration, but he does seem to be an excellent coach.

Yup but I still think it's worth giving it a go. If it all goes tits up then at that point there may be more managerial options than there are now anyway.

I'd prefer we make an appointment that's less likely to go "tits up" as we need to try an establish a period of managerial stability. I doubt there will be "more managerial options" than there are now, different maybe, but not more. It's academic anyway as he's not in the running.

Any appointment is likely to go 'tits up' (and probably will). :-)

Not sure if guiding a team to 9th in Spanish League is credentials enough for manager-job in Palace, but with Sammy Lee along Pellegrino I think the club is in safe hands with this duo...

There will be no managerial stability Dave unless the new guy continually wins 3 points each week.
