Parish takes that accolade by a long chalk.

Sorry but your opinion is invalidated due to the fact that you were two years of age when Arthur Wait died.

Both Arthur Wait and Steve Parish have been important to Palace in completely different circumstances.

I don't think Pardew can be called a mistake. Maybe not firing him quick enough that's fair enough, but he kept us in when we were in real trouble and gave us our most comfortable season free of relegation worries and a cup final.

Was referring to that mate.

We're the Arthur over ere!

I get your point. But the history books still tell the same story. I'm not talking about AW's panache and decorum as I wasn't there to witness it. What I mean by Parish being the best chairman is that he has done what no chairman has ever been able to. Sign international superstar players to come and play for Palace. Only ever time that had happened before was with Attilio. We're also signing players from other premier league clubs. Something I can't remember happening other than maybe Iain Dowie and Paul Warhurst. He's changed the whole perception of our club. And as we know, perception in this game is everything when you want to bring players to the club. He's a classy operator and it has helped our club progress to a point none of us have witnessed before.

Very well said. I don't think we have noticed quite how fire we've come since 2010.

Those were the days when chairmen and directors were 100% unpaid.

For many a year the 4 directors were Waite,Shrager, Dunster and Ercolani.

....................................................
Very unusual surname. Ercolani is the family name of the famous cabinet maker ERCOL. They are still trading and are considered on of the best British furniture makers.

Would anyone know if this guy is connected to this family?

Did anyone watch the following 1969 British Pathe video of the building of the Arthur Waite stand? Some great footage of the Holmesdale and Whitehorse terraces. Happy Days!

The reason that we have Benteke-Townsend-Cabaye etc is because Steve Parish had TV money and of course the Yanks on board--I admire what he has done fot the Palace. When Arthur Wait was chairman we had very little money, he appointed Bert Head, signed Don Rogers etc and also built a stand.

I suspect that Peter Simpson was a fantastic player for us but as I did not see him play I never pass comment on him.

Both were fantastic but to say that SP is ahead of AJW is just wrong.

I very confident that Parish will be building stands and increasing our capacity and overseeing the club as we win our first real piece of silverware. He's only been here a very short while in real terms.

Only a numpty who doesn't know their Palace history would relegate Arthur from the No.1 spot.

Not dismissing what Arthur did. Helped build the stadium up and gave us our first real bit of exposure by appointing the manager who took us up to the top flight for the first time. Amazing stuff.
Still don't think that the club has ever reached the level we're at now before though. Even when we had our most successful period under Noades, we still had a tinpot feel about us. Players leaving cheaply for bigger clubs. Never spending the money needed to push us on etc.
Also, with the money in the game now days compared to back then, it is a lot harder to to develop and push on in this modern era. You've got teams like Leeds, both the Sheffield clubs and Villa that are all PL ready, yet they can't seem to get back to where we are now. It's nothing short of amazing really.

What a fella! Our best chairman ever. Built the club up on and off the pitch and didn't have squilions of tv money to do it either. Take note Mr Parish.

Whilst I do agree that Arthur Wait is maybe singularly the most important individual in Crystal Palace history - I think its important to remember that Parish and co took over a club which had been struggling to stay in the championship, and had poor prospects of returning to the top flight, running on a small player transfer budget, and a considerable annual loss.

Its easy to forget that the season we won promotion was the season we were favourites for relegation.
