Pay him the money, he's worth it.
Obviously i'd love to see Wilf stay but if he did decide to move on then he'll go with my best wishes.

Internationally, now he doesn't really have to worry about 'playing for a big team' with the Ivory Coast (in the way you do if your an England player).

The concern really is what another London team would offer him. Somewhere like Spurs, could offer higher wages, no real disruption to his life, and the chance of Champions League football (and the bonuses that brings).

I think we need to be:

a) Offering the money. We can afford it and he's not only our best player, but a talisman.

b) Selling him the opportunity to really prove himself. People are starting to take more notice, but I get the feeling that at a bigger club, he still wouldn't be an automatic starter. Spurs spent big on Janssen and Sissoko and they sit on the bench. I think one or two more years here (hopefully competing higher up the table), and he can realistically leave as a 25/26 year old who walks straight into the first XI wherever he plays.

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

Assuming it not just money the only thing a top four PL move could offer Wilf is the chance of European competition. His international career is assured - whoever he playing for. Could he be virtually guaranteed a starting place each week at a top four club - almost certainly not.
If Palace can offer him a decent new deal he knows his name will be the first on the team sheet whenever he is fit. Also he knows he is wanted and loved by the fans here. If he happy under SA then I feel it is quite possible he will stay - at least for one more season. Perhaps wishful thinking on my part!

If he goes to Spurs they will qualify for the CL, pick the likes of Dele Alli over him and then get knocked out. He's more likely to play in European club competition staying where he is than if he went there. Probably the same thing at the other clubs.

If he were really dying to play in European competitions he'll have to go to Celtic. I don't think many players are as desparate as that.

Show him the money!

Can you imagine what a 200% pay rise will do to his lifestyle!? He already lives on Rose Walk and has a fleet of luxury motors. Super freighted!

A new deal is win/win for us and him. Higher sell on value if he does go and guaranteed pay day for him if he stays.

We should go into the negotiations with his agent like this:

SP: "So what is it you want in order to stay?"

Agent: "150k per week, a new Lamborghini for every goal scored and a statue in the car park. 20 year contract."

SP: "Done"

It's the dilemma every football Player has; they have a short career, making the 'take the money' option very appealing - who knows If the money will be on offer next year? perhaps next year sees him have a shocking season, or dare I say it, a nasty injury. More money brings more security for life after football.
But Wilf has been spurned at ManU. He more than most will know the perils of moving to a more demanding club. He'll not want to go through that again.

The right choice for footballing reasons is another year here to prove he can perform for more than 1 season. but who would begrudge him a move for more money - especially when your going to a decent club (i.e. not china!)

I can even see top Spanish sides making a bid for him in the summer let alone spurs and Chelsea.

It really is an obscene amount of money. It would be if it was an annual salary, or monthly even, but to get that much a week is crazy. Yes, I know other players get that and a lot more more - doesn't make it right. Zaha already has Noades' old mansion with indoor pool - what more does he need? One day the game will implode.
