I found it to be a rather flippant response!

Very wisely, he chose to retract it, while i was replying.

Ultimately the original poster and all his supporters have not one clue what combat of that nature is like.

It doesn't matter how much training you receive, seeing hacked off body parts from your oppo's hanging from the tree's your patrolling through surprisingly has an effect on your ability to be nice to the perpetrators.

If you've never played the game don't scrutinise the rules.

That's another bullsh*t argument imo, should we not be able to criticise politicians because we are not politicians ourselves, or bankers because we haven't 'played the game'?

I think he's suggesting that, until we find ourselves in a similar situation, it's unwise to pass judgement as glibly as many (including yourself) have done. Sounds reasonable to me.

Have you ever been in the military or in a warzone just out of interest?

Something tells me call of duty is the closest you have come or ever will come to combat

Have to agree with you dannyh people who have never been in a combat zone just do not understand the pressure when coming under fire and being attacked. Its a s***ty job at the best of times and I can remember many times when we came under fire and were attacked in Aden, Suez, Iraq, Cyprus, Northern Ireland and many other hot spots. We did our job as you probably have and did it as second nature. The Geneva convection never entered our minds. The enemy was the enemy and it was either him or us so you shot them and made sure they did not shoot anymore of our lads. Sgt Blackman must have been under a lot of pressure having had a really bad few weeks and his men getting killed around him. The b****** he shot was trying to kill them and him but got shot by helicopter fire which once hit by those rounds had little or no chance of survival. Sgt Blackman put him out of his misery and probably saved him a lot of pain so really he did him a favour. The lad who filmed it was a bit naïve by letting the footage leak out. We had a saying when I was a Marine "what happens in war stays in the war zone" and we did not talk about it except in a debrief. I think quite honestly that the poster and some others should not be so quick to run Sgt Blackman down as he was serving in a very difficult war zone and was under immense pressure both his command and what had happened prior to incident that took place. In his shoes many of you WOULD have done the same thing I can assure you about that.

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky.

Well said. In the heat of battle imo all bets are off . Geneva convention or not the rules of normal life are suspended to a degree. I am not talking about acts such as rape and torture which have been mentioned upthread but life or death situations . They would have done exactly the same thing or worse without a moment's hesitation if it were a reverse situation

I'm fed up with these namby-pamby tabloid newspapers refusing to take a stand against the elitist, out-of-touch judiciary (some of whom are openly gay, and play badminton).

Unlike our courts, The Daily Mail is soft on crime.

It should start running headlines demanding that the establishment MUST ignore these oh so right-on bleeding heart snowflakes who protest on behalf of criminals, and instead call for convicted killers to serve their full sentences and NOT be freed prematurely.

Ask me about Ronald de Boer.

Seems reasonable to me. Proof obtained. If you don't give someone a kit for drawing blood or a DNA sample (assuming you have such on record) then there isn't really too much reliable left to prove 'mission accomplished'

Guess that's why they have military court martials tribunals. Once he was convicted of murder, the sentence could only be a life sentence (mandatory for anyone convicted of murder). Its the Army service that convicted him or murder.

Oddly its civilian courts that have reversed their decision and quashed the murder conviction (the Royal Courts of Justice).

Personally, I cannot judge the guy, quite rightly, I've never been in that situation. I don't agree with what he did, but I can understand why he did it.
