If we stay up I think they'll be a lot of investment in the defence as LB will be the only position with cover (more hopefully if Papa does make a return).

We all agree an extra RB is needed, with Ward probably being the back-up, but I also think Sam will be in for a couple of CB's, one to replace Sakho (really hope we keep him, but unlikely), and one to replace Damo. Once Sakho goes we only really have Dann and Tomkins at CB, with Damo / Kelly as the back-up. I'd feel more comfortable if Tomkins was the back-up to Dann / Sakho (his replacement).

I fear we might also be looking for a replacement for Wilf, though perhaps Schlupp is earmarked for the left side?

Oh, and obviously a new keeper!

Investment in the back, perhaps with another striker.

I did call and still will call him BFS!
I am pleased he is doing well and he still would not have been my choice at the time but I say now as I did then that I will support him all the way.
He has made good signings and have now won 3 in 5 and had three clean sheets which regardless of the opposition is brilliant and confidence boosting.
4 more home wins and we will be done and dusted!
Long may BFS's influence continue!!

I also think that Klopp will want rid of Sakho but whether we can afford him or whether he wants to stay with us remains to be seen.

I think Benteke may be important in this. According to paper reports he was instrumental in getting him to come on loan.

Yes all of BFS signings seem to be working at present. However the need for a left back was caused by Souare's injury more than anything else We had some "backup" in both Kelly and Ward.

If we stay up and if Sam stays then I see a few players going. Quite a few players are out of contract. I think he will try to keep Zaha and Benteke unless we get offers we can't refuse.

Loan Players

Players are
Mamadou Sakho who I think we will try to get
Loďc Rémy for whom we have a buying option (which I hope we don't take up)

Players out of contract are

Wayne Hennessey so the WH haters will be happy. I think he will be offered a contract and turn it down

Joe Ledley who be allowed to leave

Martin Kelly who be allowed to leave

Fraizer Campbell who be allowed to leave

Zeki Fryers who be allowed to leave

Mathieu Flamini who be allowed to leave

Damien Delaney who I think may be offered a coaching role

Julián Speroni I think will depend on WH he may stay as 3rd choice keeper and may be offered a coaching role

Kwesi Appiah will be allowed to leave.

So there are potentially 10 25 man squad players going

I think he might also look at a striker to challenge Benteke for his position, or at least understudy him.

I believe we have an agreement to sign Remy permanently at the end of the season but I'm not sure FS would take up that option with the amount of time he's been on the treatment table.

We also still have Benteke Jr. Not sure how good he really is or can be though

The bloke knows what he is doing. Never been doubt. Just had a few people on here calling him big fat sam saying that we made the wrong decision. Shows how much attention they must have paid to football over the past 15-20 years really.

Didn't you start a thread last month that started 'lads and lasses we are down', then was saying who would be sold 'when' we were relegated?
How's the glass house mate?

I did indeed. I thought we were down but always stated it wouldn't be because of Sam but because of the mess he was left with. Also the little time he had available to turn the mess around. Seems that he has though and I'm over the moon. Sam's signings and ability to see players that needed a rest or replacing have changed our fortunes around. With a full pre season and summer of new recruits, we could finally become that established premier league team that we all want us to be.

I'm confident we'll stay up now, my only concern is how much money we're spending on transfers and wages - if and when we have another poor season and go down we might end up like Bolton or Charlton - Pulis at West Brom has a much more sustainable model for clubs of our size, though it does involve several 30-something navvies playing horrible football - the yanks are minted but we might be in a bubble that could burst - more fire fighting and cash splashing than strategy it seems. As for Big Sam and the long ball tag - that is history - so were Pardew and Ollie when they started out - West Ham and Sunderland played cultured thoughtful football under him to my eyes, more crosses from deep than some but these were always allied to very intelligent movement from the forwards - that's why he was so p*ssed off with doogie a few years back when he incorrectly stereo-typed him as a route 1 merchant.
