Unfair. The whole team was beyond poor. The guy just scored the winner in a 6 pointer. Christ, Why look back to games like that? BE POSITIVE AND LOOK FORWARD!

I think you may have completely misunderstood me. I meant, by saying that van Aanholt was excluded from my criticism, that he has been our only consistently good player under Allardyce including being one of the few half decent performers against Sunderland. Not really an attack on him is it? I thought that was rather complimentary....

Oh and the reason I looked back to that game is because we lined up with 3 centre backs and 2 wing backs and it didn't work very well. That was exactly what was being discussed on this thread.

The game we just won we had a back four unless my eyes deceive me.

I was giving my opinion on a back four vs three CBs and a wing back. Not being negative. Blimey.

I think SA will want to play with more height at the back against WBA. He may well go for 3 CB's and include Dann to try and nullify their prowess in the air(as flightsequence has already pointed out)

This also gives us an attacking advantage as well! This could be an afternoon of crosses and aerial dueling!

My thoughts precisely.

Play the same team. The first half on Saturday is the best we have played in ages. Continuity breeds confidence, success breeds confidence. On one had a bad game on Saturday so let them play again and build on that performance. Let WBA worry about setting their team up to play against us. Lets try and win the game.

I'd say keep Tomkins and Sakho together and not play 3 CB's. Let's have some attacking intent against West Brom. With Matty Philips still injured their attack is depleted somewhat and a decent way of dealing with their danger from set pieces is to keep the ball up their end (no pun intended).

He picked the same team for Sunderland when we had won at Bournemouth, different games require different systems and players. Personally I think we'll get absolutely thumped if we start with Tomkins, Sakho, PVA and Ward in a 4 at the back. I'd definitely get Dann in there to deal with West Brom's set-piece threat. Might have the same set-up but with Tomkins at RB in place of Ward just to have a little more height to deal with them.

Him and Sakho looked so assured on the ball and I don't recall seeing too many pointless diagonals from the back.

Only trouble is Dann is much more likely to score and Tomkins will miss sitters but I think our Captain is going to have to fight to get his place back.

Still, nice to have options again!

I think it depends upon how they are both performing on the training ground and then ultimately on the pitch once selected if they are to keep their place.
For me, if Dann finds his best form he is a better player than a form Tomkins. So its up to Dann to get it back.

An interesting aspect not mentioned yet is the captaincy - assuming Punch plays I'd like to see him retain the armband as in my view his performance moved up a level with the confidence he gained. Not necessarily reason to keep Dann out the team but it does dodge the issue!

Like the confidence in the CB partnership, but Borough cannot score for s*** so too early to read much into this

Very true, I would also bring in jimmy mac for punch as we're gona have to fight in midfield!

Dann's also a bigger Goal threat than Tomkins....and we need all the goal threats we've got at the moment!
