Being taken to the Palace social club for midweek games by my older brother.
It used to be opposite where Saintsbury's is now where the car park is.

Always had a fry up in there for midweek games.
And there was table football and a little stage for turns.
Bloody great days they were.

Another memory from my childhood is walking up to the ground and seeing either a BBC lorry or an LWT one.
You then knew we'd either be on MOTD on Saturday night or The Big Match at Sunday dinner time (or lunch time as posh people called it), just after University Challenge.

It seems like nothing now in these days of wall to wall TV coverage but back then it was almost magical.
Especially if you were a kid.

Watching Burridge in the pre-match 'Warm-Up' walking on his hands !
And goalkeepers making a mark on the turf with their boots in line with the posts to assist them in getting their angles right.

I always insisted that my brother or one of his mates played me at table football.
Looking back, I was a horrible kid.

Being put down the front of the New Stand as a boy and banging on the advertising hoardings in time to Glad All Over with your fists.

f***ing hell, I'm old!

I seem to recall a rather rotund gentleman who used to stand at the door of this club - think he used to be referred to as "Wallflower".

Recall the matchday programme containing that day's fixtures with a letter corresponding to each game EG
A. Millwall v Fulham, B.Chelsea v Tottenham etc etc.

There used to be boards attached to where the advertising hordes are normally situated with letters A,B,C etc etc - at Half time, somebody used to slot in the scores EG Board A 2,1 which would indicate the score pertaining to Match A ! How times have changed.

I remember The Standard on the way home.
And getting fish and chips for dinner at Melfort Road fish bar.
Best fish and chips ever!

I think it may have been The London Standard back then.
But I'm probably wrong.
