Pardew was at fault for trying to fit Jedinak into the same kind of system we played with Puncheon, McArthur and Cabaye in midfield. He didn't let Jedinak just sit in front of the back 4 and do what he's best at. Despite all that I still thought Jedinak was good for the Cup semi and final and our best player in the opening day defeat to West Brom this season. Jedinak has always taken a while to get back up to speed, he did when he first joined us, didn't impress for a while at Villa but has started doing well for them recently.

I agree, looking back to player that have gone won't help us but sometimes it just feels good to say and identify where the problems began. I don't want Jedinak's last season to be remembered as being one where he was passed it because I don't believe he was, just our manager at the time lacked the intelligence to use him properly.

We could have moved on from Jedinak easily IMO if:

a) we'd signed a better replacement (which we hopefully now have). Someone who could screen the defence and actually pass and be more mobile

b) Flamini had actually been fit and able to play.

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

I agree we quite easily could have replaced him but we didn't.

It's Parish's fault for sanctioning the transfer without a replacement ready, IMO he should have had the foresight to see that Pardew's poor form of last season could continue to this season and he might just have had to give Pard's the sack at some point, so SP should have held off selling one of the greatest captains this clubs ever had. If Pardew wanted Jedinak out of the club so badly then Parish could have allowed for a loan.

Flamini had barely played for 2 years so it was always going to be a risk on his fitness.

Another one to add to that list, in my opinion, would be Yannik Bolasie - we haven't had the same excitement going forward since he went.

Was there anything more fun to watch than him and Wilf changing sides and totally bewildering the opposition?

They bewilder themselves more than the opposition
Hence we have struggled every year in the prem

We miss them both massively. They both just worked so well for us. You seem team like Stoke and West Brom keep their old guard (Whelan, Adam, Crouch, Morrison, Brunt) despite the fact they're not the most fashionable players. Grass not always greener. We're getting relegated and they're not.

If Jedinak and Murray are still such awesome players, that we allowed to be sold, why did no other Premier team want them?
They are now playing in Championship, which to be fair is now their level.
This obsession with old players on here is amusing. They did well for us, no doubt, but times move on. They were well paid for their services.
To compare Crouch with Murray is laughable, Crouch has been on the sidelines at Stoke for about a year, kept his head down and supported his team, now got recalled. If I recall Murray threw his toys out of the Priam, when told he wasn't an automatic start and wanted away.

Pardew managed to ruin a decent defence - pretty much the same defence that learnt how to do it properly under Pulis. Selling Murray was a huge mistake, he and Gayle worked so well together. Now we've just got a big guy in the box to lob them up to and hope he gets his head on it. 15 goals a season from a 32 million player isn't going to be enough if we're leaking goals at the other end. Shudve kept hold of Bolasie.......

If it is a choice between Jedi and Pardew then I choose number 15 all day long.

everyone is forgetting that things were as bad under neil warnock as they are now under allardyce in my opinion. we had jedi, murray, delaney, speroni, mccarthy even behind the scenes. but we were stil crap- i believe that these 'driving forces' are overrated and their absence is not why we're poor. maybe the players that have substituted them are not willing to fight to turn the season around, but i don't think jedinak was the lucky gem that some suggest

This....Jedinak was a great player and captain, but 2nd half of last season we were still crap even when he played. Time to knock this one on thd head...as has been said many times, selling Jedinak was not the problem, not replacing him was.
