Whenever Damo is left out the defence are vulnerable to set pieces. Don't let people pension you off they are only fickle fans.

I think this whole Delaney as a wing back thing could gather some momentum here, might start a petition. It's amazing how many people round here seem to confuse our country of residence (as indicated by the flags on our posts) with our nationalities. I would think most of us have some sort of connection with South London, since we aren't exactly a club that attracts a lot of plastics? I'm about as Scottish as the White Cliffs of Dover. I still rate Delaney ahead of Tomkins but I can't see any other back three other than: Sakho - Dann - Tomkins. Tomkins and Sakho are well suited for the right and left sided CB's roles respectively, Dann is the captain, decent on the ball, good passer but slower than JT and MS so should be the central one of the three. But bear in mind that Sakho hasn't played at all this season, so he may be a touch off proper match fitness and probably will be rusty for the first few games he plays. Agree with all of the above. Maybe bring him on for some minutes if we get a couple goals in front in the next couple games. Don't think I'd drop Damo straight away he's a rock and we really need some more points in the board. Obviously that changes if Sakho shines in training. Alternative would be switch Tomkins for Sakho ? Guess big sam will no more. Would say it's great seeing us play 3 central plus wing backs. Been saying it since the summer that we should. Actually surprised Sams gone that route. But very pleased.

Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

Damo was solid in defence last night although I thought Tompkins was better - got his head on nearly everything that came into our box. Don't forget that it was Damo's flick-on that gave us the first goal last night too. A massive contribution if ever there was one.

It was a nice touch seeing Damo give Wayne a hug as an apology when he swiped at thin air. He is an old-school player who makes up for his lack of technique with true heart and grit. I'll be sad when he eventually leaves as he is a true leader and would probably have got the armband if he'd been a few years younger.

Great bloke and love how he wears his arm on his sleeve. We'll see what he can offer once the new wing combination beds down. I imagine we will vary formation because of injury or simply to prepare for it, Damp will find time in there.

I doubt we have signed a France international to warm the bench, so if we play 3 at the back its probably going to be Dann/Tomkins/Sakho. I just feel that Damo brings some intangibles and makes us better back there. He had a couple of ugly hacks last night but he is immense with getting his head on stuff and clearing it. Maybe Sakho can do that and do better than Damo in the other areas but I just would like to see Delaney out there. I think Ward is a terrible wing back so how about Delaney flying down the right wing?!!? A great sub IMO. Damo's an enigma. As you rightly intimate he does some great stuff back in defense, so much so, that he must help us avoid a lot of goals conceded. But far too often, in the final few minutes of a match, it's invariably Damo who does the rash tackle. I can't count the times he's given away penalties and free kicks that have cost us points. I can see that he has improved this to some degree, but sometimes, tired and at the end of a match, he just can't help himself. That free kick he gave away at Bournemouth... Hennessey and a bit of luck was what saved the day. Instead of winning 0-2 we could so easily have lost 1-2, because of Damo's indiscretion. Sadly for him, for this reason I'm putting him as first choice defensive sub on the bench. That is until Sahko is ready.
