Sell Dwight Gayle for 10. Buy Scott Hogan for 15! Only at Palace.

Different height, Hogan is a proper target man like Benteke should be.

Hardly a big difference. However, his value does depend on whether we're going to play two up top. If we are in for him I do wonder if there's any Chinese whispers for Big Ben, especially given the bids from China for Rondon and Ighalo in recent days.

The media are now saying Villa are nudging ahead of Palace and West Ham in the race to sign Scott Hogan but none of the reports that I've read say why they have come to that conclusion.

Any size player can make himself a good target, Defoe gets balls hit up to him but uses his body so well to receive the ball at a height that's comfortable for him. Smaller players can run into the defenders as the ball's being played, forcing the defender to either foul them or get turned. Gayle used to always receive the ball at the highest point but head on to no one and his ball control, passing and dribbling were very poor.

This guy has spent most of his career in non league football. How does he suddenly become a premier league striker who will fire us to safety?
