To be fair, given the usual state of Selhurst, a f***ing urinal cake could be mistaken for a touch of glamour too far.

First thing I thought of, was if we were Americanised - we'd do a bloody sight better on the pre and half time entertainment and that light show wouldn't be half as s**t as it is (In fact I thought it was a test of the lights).

Not what I said though is it.

Well its hardly a reach around is it, playing a song and throwing them some T-shirts. I can't think of any other business where it would be considered 'good practice' to try to alienate paying customers and make them unwelcome.

Well except s**ty pubs that typically also have a reputation for violence and are frequented by people as a 'badge of their hardness' (before they're closed down because they don't make any money).

Appealing to away fans is going to get bigger and bigger in football, especially in the top flight - Make their away day welcoming and the them.

A lot of Reading fans were very keen on discussing the Crystal cheerleaders when we first introduced them and played Reading. These kinds of differences swing people who might only go to two or three away games.

I'd prefer we just took their money by selling them decent food & beer.
Get 'em in the ground quick & empty those wallets.
Playing the w***ers their own songs & encouraging them at our place is w***.
Its called home advantage for a reason.

Kids, tired of being bothered by your pesky parents?
Then leave home, get a job & pay your own bills, while you still know everything.

Yeah. Sentiment is in the right place but perhaps a little bit OTT. And whoever writes their Facebook posts needs to learn that writing EVERYTHING IN CAPS DOES NOT MAKE IT MORE EFFECTIVE. It actually has the opposite effect.

However totally on board with the rage against making away supporters feel at home. If that is actually true about giving away t-shirts that's a bit weird.

Provide a good level of service where needed but no reason to copy Brighton, Arsenal etc. in customising the away experience. Football thrives on competition not equality. Last thing we want is the away support to feel comfortable, especially at the moment!

Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons.

Can we have some American cheerleaders as well then?

The ones who visited when they were playing at Wembley, we were in the Championship that night, will be welcome.

Or some like the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders auditioning reality show.

They're all welcome.

It's what you were implying though.

As for a good business model - of which football is unique and is unlike almost all other businesses, and alienating paying customers, people don't buy an Away football ticket hoping they might get a free t-shirt or hear their clubs' song over the speaker system.

Tickets have been made cheaper for Away supporters than the majority of Home supporters. There's also far more chance that any Away fan already lives in London, than a Palace fan living in any of the 'Away' cities - although that is a slightly different point.

I do think it vulgar that Palace have footed the bill for Cantona shirts to be printed and handed out for free, in the very stadium where he had his most infamous moment of attacking a 'Home' supporter.

I think "we'd do a bloody site better on the pre and half time entertainment" if we didn't have it. I'm bound to be in a minority on this, but I - and the people around me - like to have a chat about the previous game, have a moan about xyz player(s), talk about the opposition, etc. But with the bloody racket constantly coming aver the public address system (particularly that fake crowd noise that goes on and on) it's almost impossible to have a conversation. I listened last night to Spurs v Chelsea on the radio, and the commentators were competing before kick-off with a barrage of artificial noise there. So it's not just us.

I don't mind turning away from a conversation to watch the Crystals, but how pitiful and amateurish does it look when, on a cold wet night, there are only about eight of them? If you can't do something properly, don't do it at all. Even synchronising the flashing of the lights with the music (an infantile idea anyway) seems to be beyond our capabilities.

I think I must end my rant before I damage myself.

How about none at all.

This was the start of the 'commercialisation' of the Club.

Being a Palace Supporter that's from America, who is American, who has never stepped foot in South London, let alone England i feel as though this post may be met with a good amount of vitriol and backlash. Given the American investment and the general nativism of sports clubs anywhere in the world, i try to emphasize with the cynical eye a home-grown Palace supporter would have of this "Football Globalization" and outsider influence. Many may feel its selling out, many may feel that its no longer a "South London" enterprise, that a part of the community has been corrupted or taken away from you. Realistically though, if Palace is too ever become firmly established in the Premier league isn't the foreign investment and growth needed? Not to undermine whats been built in the past and the rich club culture that even a foreign fan such as myself could never truly be embraced by. Sports worldwide are undergoing a sort of revolution where the gaps are being closed, I would expect as the years go on the gap will close between the rest of the Premiership and the top "usual suspect" clubs. The Leicester City run we saw a year ago will become more the rule rather than the exception.

Couldn't agree more! The soul of the club is being ripped out and something has to be done about that -- looking around social media and the message boards it's clear that this is the feeling of many as well, not just a few.
Time for the fans to reclaim the culture of the club and remind those in charge what Palace is built upon, south london foundations, local support and genuine footballing passion, not w***y corporate gimmicks.
Don't know why people are suggesting that the HF are in any way pro-Pardew either. This statement clearly criticises the direction he was taking the club in and his name wasn't sung for months in the ground.

Either way, good luck with the fight lads! Time to galvanise the support and make the club something South London can be proud of again, not just SE25's own carbon copy to every other soulless club in the league.

What a load of boll__ks, I remember the old days of genuine football passion after the semi final team of the 70s were ripped apart by Ray Boyle and Big Mal. We ended up in the old third division, going to Wrexham away was a depressing trip.
Todays position is a million times better, playing better teams at better grounds, if the lights are bright, who cares.
Nobody in their right mind would want to go back to those bad old days. if they do they can go and watch Bromley.
