So a team thin on squad numbers and struggling for results, confidence and fitness is going to go to Arsenal and have a go when (arguably) the biggest game of the season is at home in 48 hours ? No wonder you liked Pardew.

Great admirer of Wilf but he and Townsend continually lost the ball cheaply when they needed to help ease the pressure.

The manner of having 10 defenders and 1 goalkeeper. Difficult to score like that. Don't you think? Should we approach a football game thinking we have lost before kick-off? What happened to "top ten", "Europa League" expectations? They seem to have melted away. This board was full of optimism, now everyone seems happy with *anti-football*. I don't get it.

The trouble was they still had lots of chances, so in hindsight we might as well have gone for it as a free game knowing the other teams had lost. None of us are happy with anti football long term but until SA gets in new players its going to be tough to get any points v the top teams.

We were poor today, but it's more down to the players in general. The game plan almost worked - you can't defend against those type of goals... however you don't need to give it away in the build up.
Swansea will be the turn around.

Jordan Mutch and Fraizer Campbell were on the pitch at the end of the game ffs.

Injuries, fitness and poor morale have followed Pardew around wherever he's been and Allardyce isn't going to fix that in a week.

The worst I've seen in a year was the first half away to West Brom and the writing was on the wall then IMO.

I agree with you!
Alan Pardew literally ripped the heart and spirit out of CPFC over the period of his tenure - it took a while to show but when it did it was spectacular.
He got rid of characters to get it done his way and his abject failure means that we have had to employ Fat Sam - not my first choice - I would have taken relegation with Gary Rowett in charge as it happens whilst building for the future.
Some posters are slagging off Allardyce after a few days when he has a poor and depleted squad to work with - those same posters thought Pardew was still God after 6 wins in 37 games!!!!!
We may well go down this season - I hope we don't - but it will be better in the long term doing it this way than if we had kept Pardew.

Allardyce has only been here for two games for FFS; the first after just a single training session and the other away to Arsenal. Let's give the man a chance to show what he can do with the team and a transfer window before we start pining for the golden days of 2016. Pardew had two transfer windows and a year to sort things out and achieved a form record of 92 out of 92, with no evidence that he could turn it around. It's now Allardyce's turn to see if he can dig us out of the Pardew-created pile of cack and it's going to take more than a week to do that.

I think there's a few people on here that need to calm down and get some perspective.

If you could name one area where the team is exposed at the moment, it's at full back. On both sides. Arsenal are arguably the best in the PL at exploiting that weakness.

Until we sign a left back and restore Ward to right back, that problem remains.

Overall it was a somewhat tepid performance but I think thoughts were on a more winnable game against Swansea tomorrow.

It's a joke that you have to point this out to some people NEILLO.

Give Big Sam a chance FFS!

Our full backs are not the only problem, but it's a starting point.

Totally agree, this board is getting ridiculous at times, I know everyone has and is entitled to their opinions but FS has had the team for approx 1 week, what is he expected to do in that time? Arsenal away was never going to be anything than a defeat, after the 1st golal damage limitation was the order of the day, I couldn't see anything wrong with that. In fact I thought there were more positives than negatives (defence looked more organised, except full backs, team put a "shift" in) my opinion any way.

Why take relegation with Rowett if there is a chance of survival!??? I'm glad Parish is in charge and doesn't have your mentality!

I don't think people quite understand what relegation from the premier league means anymore. Look at the money involved for a start!

Building for the future has to be one of the biggest clichés. Without premier league money we'll be building nothing!

Unfortunately Arsenal were on it today. If Townsend and Zaha were playing further forward I reckon it would have been a whole lot worse.
It was about staying in the game and nicking a goal, which nearly happened with CB in the second half. It was game over at 2-0. If we set up like that against the teams around us then I would be worried.
West Ham played good football under Sam as did Bolton, don't buy this, 'it's the way he sets his team up' s***e. Tbh it's good to see players playing within their capabilities.

That's how I saw it as well. Arsenal surprised me as to how they shut us down as soon as we got the ball. There players are far superior to ours when you look at 11 v 11 and they all did there jobs and more yesterday. We will get better and hopefully in time to stay up? It's going to be a long job but I'm hopeful we will get it right under Aladaye to stay up?

Yep, Pardew never thought beyond 'Quick, get a goal.' A bit immature.
