Thought it was a red at first sight - I suppose you have to argue he's been pushed so far wide he wouldn't have scored. That it's not even a yellow is insane but oh well.

Willo Why don't you do yourself a favour once in a while. We all know what you think of Clattenberg but come on, you will never see a more obvious booking than this. Gomez kicks his knee well after the ball has gone. No complaining from Gomez or his team mates because they are just relieved he stayed on the pitch. He awarded the penalty so he saw it. For once just admit that maybe Clattenberg should of booked him as well. This could be why people get so infuriated with you because you are so one eyed.

Edited by Willo (27 Dec 2016 10.47am) Nothing inadvertant about it, he meant to kick Benteke and he did kick him.....Definate yellow at least! Red at the other end with mark in charge! No question he made contact hence a penalty was awarded. As for 'Intent' his foot was not far from the ball so it just looked like a mis-timed and clumsy challenge by someone not used to making tackles.

Sorry Willo it wasn't clumsy but made with intention to stop Benteke. Look where is foot connected (side if knee) and its lucky he didn't incur a serious injury. My biggest grip though is why he was not yellow carded whereas Delaney was. Both had the same outcome .....a penalty. Very poor decision making by the referee. Please explain Willo your opinion on the 'no card'?'

Please explain Willo your opinion on the 'no card'?' In my opinion the challenge was not 'Careless', and certainly not in the category of 'Serious foul play' or 'Violent conduct'. If you look at the proximity of Gomes' boot to the ball, one could deem the challenge was mis-timed and clumsy. Besides, if Benteke had not fluffed his penalty there probably wouldn't be this discussion on HOL.

So on this basis why was Delaney booked for what was a pull on the shirt rather than Gomez's which was a kick and potentially serious? Again a very poor decision by Clattenburg.
