Saw it earlier today and absolutely loved it. For anyone, like me, who felt disappointed with the force awakens, this makes up for it. Shows that prick JJ Abrams how to make a Star Wars movie. agree 100%. saw it yesterday and thought it was fantastic. seemed to have the right tie in, at the right time, throughout. the "force" was in there just enough to make it truly star wars. force awakens had some good stuff but it was just too much of a new hope renewed. they lost me with the super weapon that can destroy a planet. that was just so lazy. and hte small band of rebels who take the whole thing out. disappointing. didn't like that they stole the whole harry potter "the weapon chooses you" thing either. maybe could've scored some points if they found a way to get rey in leigh's slave outfit.

I reckon you had to be a Star Wars fan to like it. I also thought some of the effects were worse than the 77 original. Every helmet looked plastic - as did many of the costumes and droids.

That's what I liked about it, it was entirely a film aimed at Star Wars fans. None of this catering to a new audience, or trying to drag people in. If you don't like Star Wars I'd imagine this film is like trying to understand a novel by starting on chapter 22. I thought that storm trooper armour was constructed of a kind of 'plastic ablative substance' so as to protect against energy weapons. Having recently sat through the original movies. The armour does look like its plastic, just thicker plastic, but the droids do look very metallic, which made me feel great sympathy for Kenny Baker in the Tatooine scenes. That could not have been pleasant. Edited by jamiemartin721 (05 Jan 2017 4.41pm)

Just on my way home from seeing it and it's absolutely superb. Felicity Jones is a solid heroine, K-2SO provides the wit, and Donnie Yen's blind warrior steals the show. Gareth Edwards shows FA fanboys how you make a proper Star Wars film. Definitely seeing it again.

R1 does flesh out the "Bothans" line though, showing the carnage required to steal the plans for the 1st Death Star. It was more akin to Saving Private Ryan than any Star Wars movie. (For the record...loved it!)
