Think it depends on the transfer window coming up - It appears Parish / the Americans are backing Pardew to keep us up and for this new style of play to come good? Let's hope they are right as for me most of Pardews signings just haven't been first team material and with all the injuries we have had there replacements just haven't been good enough - long answer, but for me we won't stay up with Pardew in charge. But then I'm not sure bringing anyone else in will keep us up?

Playing well and getting beat by Manu and Chelsea and playing s***e and getting beat by Burnley and Swansea will not keep us up.

It's a lot easier to play well against the likes of Chelsea where there is no pressure and all you need to do is concentrate on keeping the score down. Playing against the likes of Watford and Swansea will be completely different...I will reserve judgement on any real improvement until we play a meaningful game.

I feel there is a lot of good analysis in what you are saying, the trouble is the club are in a difficult situation to get rid of AP with transfer window coming up will almost certainly make it difficult for any new coach as he would hardly have the time to evaluate and replace. We do need to source at least three quality players in the window to even stand a chance. As you say AP signings are players who in the main could not get first team football at their previous clubs, probably because they were not considered good enough by their previous managers, I feel we are in for some anxious weeks and months ahead

For the life of me I can't see this "transition" taking us any further than the Championship. This for me is gross mis-management. We need to get real and return to a game plan to keep us up.

This is the difficulty. If AP cannot be trusted to keep us up who is there out there that can be GUARANTEED to keep us up? They will have a lot to do . Assess the team , decide on a style of play , change the back room staff , bring their style of players in etc etc.
If Parish backs AP it will just mean new players to improve the performance of the team. Right or wrong I think Parish will continue to back AP. I hope he is right COYP

This thread only exists because of the utter incompetence of the manager which has been apparent to anybody with the slightest understanding of the game for several months.

That is correct, SP will back Pardew and like us all I just hope he is right to do so.

Or the difficulties in changing the style of a lower premier league team to be able to compete in arguably the most difficult league in the world having a base of just avoid relegation quality players?

We've been in the prem for three years based on being difficult to beat, quick breaking and strong from set pieces.

Pardew's tried to change too much too fast.

We now have a huge wage bill and a soft team bereft of the confidence (and possibly fitness)to close a game out.

Was like this second half of last season and, guess what, all of this season.

I just don't want to return to the old days, I love us being in the PL. We have the backing and are in the best financial position we have probably ever been.
