Him and Kelly have been atrocious on that left side - it's the primary reason we're losing so many games IMO. Townsend has no reason to complain - even he must know that we're not going to move Wilf off the right on current form. I thought we looked far better with Punch on the left and Wickham playing off Benteke through the middle - I hope we persist with this and give Towsend some time to get his head out of his arse.

I just don't get townsend. I know he likes cutting in from the right and shooting and crossing. But surely as a winger your main job is to hit the byline and cross for benteke, and if you're left footed this must be easier playing on the left.

I'm not sure I quite get the Wilf on the right comparison though. It seems only luck that Zaha has had a couple of good moments from the right wing. Not games, moments. If his game was crossing then fine, you wouldn't put David Beckham on the left because all he can do is cross. Wilf though is not that great. He will have magic moments on either wing and frustrating moments on either wing. At least if he has those magic moments on the left, when he's cut in he's on his stronger side. Townsend on the other hand is NOT a magic player. He's efficient. He has very good close control and very good long range finishing. I.E. He he can dribble around a right back onto his stronger foot (even if they try and show him on the weaker foot) and can bang one in the top corner. If he cuts in on his left he hesitates and has no idea what to do. So yes, Wilf is better at this moment in time and I get why you say he shouldn't be moved but it would give us more out of both rather than some out of just 1 in my opinion.

This season Wilf has been not only consistent but very good in ninety percent of our matches. He is one of the leading providers of 'assists' in the country (joint third I believe) and has created several opportunities that have not been taken. He is a constant thorn in any full backs side and his work tracking back has seen a marked improvement. Okay sometimes he lets a guy run off him but he is a winger and not a defender and such indiscretions are considerably more common place with other wide men - for example look no further than Townsend who rarely even bothers to get back and help. There are plenty of players we can point a finger at but right now Wilf is certainly not one of them. To suggest that what he has achieved thus far this season is due only to luck is quite ludicrous in my humble opinion.
