There's a nasty bloke at my work who's been winding me up for some time. Always immature and knocking over piles of stock I have stacked at work etc. I've wanted to lay into him and give him a hiding for the last year or 2 that he's been here but I don't do things like that these days as I have a Mrs and a kid and rent to pay so cant afford to be losing my job. This guy bullies and upsets another couple of the guys at work too. He's been reported a couple of times but no one seems to care and he makes people's life a misery at work especially me as I'm always full of anger and wish I could do something about the without getting into trouble and losing my job. Today I find out myline manager has been promoted and I got called into the meeting room for my boss to tell me the Bully has been given the job to be my supervisor. I said it's a joke and how could someone so immature and someone who upsets people and winds them up etc be given the job and my boss just said the decision is final. He called the Bully in to the room and he acted all innocent like butter wouldn't melt in his mouth and said "there will be no trouble from me" but for weeks he has been winding me up saying "I'm going to be your boss and you ain't going to last long when I'm incharged" building up till today. When we left the room he had a smirk on his face. It's going to be hell working under him and I have so much built up anger where I want to hit him so I don't have a clue how the hell I'm going to keep calm when he's up to his usual immature shananigans. I have been going home from work depressed over the last year from all the stress he causes which has been effecting me and my finances relationship. Is there any law against promoting someone who has caused all this grief? Is there anything that can be done about it? I thought there was rules against someone being chose for a job role without anyone else being consulted who might have wanted the job themselves or at least be interviewed for it? I can't believe what a joke of a company it is here to not care and to be happy to have someone like him making people's life hell. I know nothing about this sort of thing. Is there anyone I could talk to to give advice on actions that can be taken?

See my previous message.

I would happily help you.

Name the pub and I will come

I usually drink in the Two Brewers (which is tucked away in the backstreets of Selhurst) but, seeing how you're from Bromley, you'll never find that

I worked with a guy that really got my back up and was a complete arse to everyone. I thought the best course of action was revenge. We shared a fridge at work and his lunch was often tampered with, amazing how many times he would go to the toilet after eating his lunch. I put grated cannabis in his coffee jar, i made it a mission to get him as much as i could and i actually enjoyed going to work again and watching him. Have to say in the end i told him what i had been doing to him as the fun run out after a few months. I ended up clumping him and got sacked. Best thing that ever happened to me as i walked into a job that has given me a great career.

OP do not do this for f**ks sake!!!
Although very funny, me and some mates did the same thing to a jumped up ass we worked with when we were very young, hilarious at the time, but could have gone sooo bad, and could well end up with you in prison.

As suggested above, film him being a dick, but then pop it onto a disk and post it anonymously to your boss.

When/If you hand in your notice make sure you include the reason you are leaving and that they failed to do anything about it. The company may start listening when they are losing staff because of it.

sadly, that tends to be the only time that this sort of thing gets picked up on. I worked for a company years back who actually conducted a leavers interview after you'd gone, usually over the phone. I left because one of the managers was a total tool and made everones life miserable. I heard a few years later that he'd been 'moved' as so many leavers interviews stated he was the reason they were leaving. sadly, the rest of us got on really well and loved it there all bar him.

Think I would probably agree. If the company employs and promotes that sort of person, despite staff concerns, then they aren't the place you should be working.

I don't think anyone refuses to hand out references any more, but they literally just say "[x] worked here as [y] between [date] and [date]." Nothing about how you were or performed. But in these times where informal communication is so easy then it is always a risk that something will be said if things go bad.

I think this "Bully" was testing the OP from the off.

If he had knocked over my pile of work deliberately, he would be apologising and building it back up again or he would suffer far worse reprisals from me.

You let him get away with it and now he thinks you haven't got the bottle and has upped the ante.

This will only end in tears.... yours or his.... make sure it's his mate... grow a pair.

Grow a pair? As I say to the Mrs every night I would love to smash him to bits. I have a young family I need to provide for though so I need the job. Maybe a few years ago when I didn't have to pay bills and have a kid I would of done but I can't afford to now. It's nothing to do with growing a f**king pair. I thought I'd get at least one wannabe hard man on here...

I'm no hard man, but he is taking the p1ss out of you and you're letting him.

There's no reason why you can't tackle him verbally is there?

If you are serious about wanting this to end, you need to act tougher than you have been.

Sorry, but that's the reality.

I have tackled him verbally and told him what I thought/told him to f**k off many times. He seems to enjoy that as he knows he's got away so long with not getting a hiding. He's the sort of person that only understands a hiding
