"Until Wilfred Zaha can prove he can sit on the bench, week after week, at a top top club, then he won't get to sit on the bench for the England squad. It's as simple as that." Not my words, but the type of words that you'd hear from footballing sage Alan Shearer. Wilf needs to show he has the temperament to sit impassively on the sides, without getting angry, while James Milner, Wayne Rooney and Harry Kane tap endless, impotent side passes, before eventually the ball goes off for a throw in.

Also Austin missing out when Vardy's been way off from last season is odd.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... |

True. Bobby Robson used to pick players from Southampton, Derby, QPR etc. But then Taylor used to try every English option.

Watch Wilf leave in January and suddenly make the squad. Southgate and Wilf have previous in the U21 set up, My understanding is that Wilf fell out with a few over the way he went about things.

On current form Zaha is the best English winger in the league. Townsend I don't believe has earned a place, but he has history and that seems to count for a lot with England managers. For me Zaha has grown up this season and top of that he offers the unexpected which England seem desperately short of, especially with Alli unfit. The only argument I can see against Wilf is that teams generally sit very deep against England and he tends to prefer space to run into.

England manager was at the Burnley game on Saturday Probably because the only top side was M.City who kicked off at 3pm Saturday. Not much point watching them as they do not have many English players.

I hope he sticks two fingers up at England and goes to play for the Ivory Coast. I do recall, but may be wrong, that he had a falling out with ravel Morrison when he was in the England U21s. Is there still a fall out from that? Think Southgate may have been manager at the time.
