not singling Ward out but i have been saying for a while his positional sense isnt great, he gives the wingers/left backs to much space like he did with cresswell for his cross for the goal should of been tighter and dont turn your back. He has been a good servant but needs to be looked at either in next transfer window or summer

Opinions also change like the wind as it was only a couple of years ago when the HOL membership were clamouring to have him in the England squad as he was easily England quality whereas according to this thread he isn't even Premiership quality

When Ward is playing well we look a very good side defensively.He is an intergral part of the side and on the few occasions he has been injured we look a worse side. A couple of years ago he was on the fringes of the England A number of players have been bought to give backup /competition for Ward and none have taken his place. I don't think he is a world class player but i do think he is a dependable defender who rarely lets us down. I think in the defence cover at Central defender and left back are more concern.

Good God yaw. We have to prioritise how we upgrade the team. I agree that, at some point we need an upgrade at RB, but I think there are other things to do first. Our lack of cover at CB is a worry. I also would prioritise a creative midfielder. At left back I think Fryers has an opportunity to show we don't need to buy a LB in January, an opportunity he may or may not take.

Makes too many mistakes, not quick and alert enough and give away too many free kicks in dangerous positions. A great ambassador for the Eagles, but at least he needs serious competition for the right back spot.

Really like Ward, he's got days when he plays really well. Can't fault his effort, but sometimes effort isn't good enough. Need someone who's comfortable with the ball at their feet.

It's all about levels. We are trying to move to the next, to do this I'm afraid players like Ward need to be upgraded. In todays football, I think full backs are one of the most important positions when they used to be the least! You need a player who can attack and defend, comfortable on the ball and has bags of energy. I think Ward tries hard and defends well enough, but doesn't fill me with confidence on the ball and isn't fast enough. Walker, Clyne, Bellerin, Coleman etc are what we are looking for but we would need to spend big money to get a player in their ilk. There are some good ones out there though who I believe would be an 'upgrade'. Adam Smith of Bournemouth would be who would I try and get.
