Ward is a solid reliable fullback. A model pro. Not England material though (although i would probably take that as a compliment)

I think we might be looking at an upgrade on Ward next year, especially now our long term aim is to be a regular top eight Premier team who can win the odd cup now and then

England lost Clynne through injury, called up Glenn Johnson who then also became injured, and now Keane of Burnley has stepped in. BCR What LEVEL is Joel now at ?

Quite how you've decided players have gone up a level or become better players I'll never no , it's been 4/5 games , and there has been several halves in those 4/5 games in which we were awful!! Bournemouth first half being one. As for MacArthur he is playing pretty much how he has ever since he turned up at the club but is finally getting some recognition for his hard work. Ward and punch were very poor last year and are finally looking back to how we all know they can play, wouldn't say they look better , just back in form , but it's been 4/5 games , that being said the weakest part of the team now is the full backs and will surely be where we upgrade next.

It seems a bit of a mystery to you but it's pretty obvious to me the club overall has improved. Why do you think Ward and Punch are looking better ?

Ward would easily make it into a lot of European national teams. He has been really dependable for Palace. I like him a lot as a player, he is more than capable of a top performance, but he does make the odd mistake as well. For me I think he'd be in the top 5 English right backs, but he's no where near the national team. I think there are better performers in the team that would be closer in line to the England team. Dann, Punch, and Zaha I would imagine would be in the Southgate's thoughts before Ward. I have to say that he doesn't get targeted in the same way as other fullbacks at Palace have. If we had to spend money to replace him we could spend good money and not find a better and more committed player. I know some people liked Mariappa but when Ward was injured and Mariappa stepped in Jesus he made me nervous both with and without the ball in a way I'm not with Ward. Good honest player, really rate him. England no.
