We practically swapped Bollasie and Gayle for Townsend and Benteke. Great business.

I watched some of the match on monday, and from what I saw he still is a poor crosser. And actually it is not so very difficoult to do a deasent cross in the box.

I think Bolasie had a poor season last year, that's all it really was, in 14/15 he was virtually unplayable at times. He could have flourished again this season. As of yet, I haven't seen enough from Townsend to say he's an improvement on Bolasie, maybe in terms of crossing quality but in terms of overall threat I still think Bolasie is better. £25 Million is pretty hard to turn down, I can see why we sold him and to swap him and Gayle for Townsend and Benteke for the net cost of £5-8 Million is pretty good business. I was just curious whether the Bolasie money is extra cash avaliable for January or the stadium or if the money was needed to get Benteke over the line. If you look at our net spend it's only £9 Million I think from the summers window, surely that indicates we have money to spend.

Yannick's heart just wasn't with us anymore. He seems a tad rejuvenated already at Goodison. He has better players around him to keep him on his toes so has to be consistent. Something he could afford to get away with at Selhurst. A good deal for both clubs but don't be surprised if Everton come in the top three for the next couple of seasons if a £40mill bid for Yannick comes in from one of the 'richer than you' clubs here or abroad.

Nuisance and exciting player he was I would still rather Townsend was crossing a ball to Benteke than Yannick

.... and I presume that he will be off to the African Cup of Nations in January for up to 3 weeks. Some players struggle for a bit after coming back - I can't recall how he did in 2015 after playing for Congo.

We would be better with him but when a player wants out as long as the price and time is right for the club its a no brainer, the time and price were right IMO just gutted he wanted out.

He is playing in a much better team, on a good run against relatively poor opposition, with a better manager (and I'm a Pardew supporter). It's no wonder that he's doing well at the moment, but I'll wait to see if he can do it week in, week out for an entire season before I start to doubt that Everton got a bargain.

You wont be saying poor opposition when we play them teams all of a sudden you will say they are good teams we are up against. Bolasie is playing well for Everton crossing better and a lot quicker than he did for us

Palace in the Blood 18 Sep 16 12.37pm | |

I think the moment we bought Townsend it was likely that either Bolasie or Zaha would want to go. All 3 players wanted First team football and either 1 was played out of position or they would have been rotated. In my view that would have been a temporary solution. Everton offered good money for Bolasie and he went as he wanted to go and it was a fair offer. There were rumours of interest in Wilf from big European Clubs, if these had produced similar size offers before Bolasie left I wonder if he would have been sold instead? Townsend , wilf and Kaikai are all better on right so cover would have been less of a problem. Everyone has their view on who was more influential Bolasie or Zaha. My own personal view was Bolasie was more influential for Palace - his injuries last year coincided with our drop in form. Both were inconsistent and drifted in and out of games but in my view Zaha had more off days than Bolasie and was far less impressive when Bolasie was not playing (or having an off day). I think AFCON was part of descision too losing Bolasie in January was something that was going to be difficult. In many ways it is a shame Bolasie decided to play for Congo. By birth I think he could have played for France and I think by residence England. The descision has been taken now We will miss Bolasie but Palace will move on.

Mate, we sold Bolasie because Parish thought he was at the peak of his value and I think he's right. I don't believe it had anything to do with anything else. We could afford Benteke regardless. We'd just had to have forgotten buying in midfielders which is what we've ended up doing anyway because we left it to late and either weren't sure of Rincons value, haven't actually scouted him properly or as usual wanted to maximise every deal in our favour. Fair enough to a point but remember that positions mean millions and the lack of cover almost put us in real danger before. Who did we buy after selling Bolasie? Benteke only. Edited by Rudi Hedman (17 Sep 2016 9.57pm) I agree it was good business. Amazing business. The question was whether we could have kept him and I am just not sure we could have done exactly the business we did and kept him. 10m net transfer spend already and an extra 5m on wages. (Very roughly). Add 30m to that (by how much selling Bolasie offset bringing in Big Ben). I think you are getting up towards 115m (total wages plus net transfer fees paid out plus a bunch of other shot like agent fees. I am a bit slow so if I got some sums wrong, be diplomatic.
