However, if we could by some miracle spend £35m on Berahino and Sakho from spammers that's a better deal. Parrot

Just posted in Benteke thread. We've had a reality check if chelscum have bid £57m for Lukaku and been turned DOWN. Suddenly £32.5m seems cheap - and what happens when the toffees need a striker?

Having sold him to Everton for a "Mere" £28 Mill ! Very surprised that Lukaku wasn't kept by Chelsea, particularly as Drogba did so well there. If that bid is correct we will have to get the wallet out to get our targets.

At the time Lukaku was quite young (Maybe between 18 and 20 during his time at Chelsea ?) and he was competing with the likes of Drogba, Daniel Sturridge, £50 Mill Torres, also Eto'o and Demba Ba although all of these weren't there all the time when Lukaku was at the 'Bridge'. Edited by Willo (30 Jul 2016 11.48am) Very true but his loan spells at WBA and Everton showed that he was more than capable in the EPL, 32 goals in 66 appearances. I think they missed a trick there.

Everton turned it down because they'd find it difficult to replace him. They have more money now, and keeping hold of your best players is almost as important as signing decent ones. It doesn't mean Lukaku is worth more than 50 odd million, just Everton can afford to not sell him for that.
