Worth getting him just to keep Wickham and Benteke on their toes. I don't think he'd be a bad player either. A good number 2 next to Wickham or Benteke (assuming we get Benteke of course). Good experience too. Won't get caught offside so much and could make smart assists. For the money I'd get him - not much risk.

At £4m,with his wealth of experience and awareness, must be worthwhile ,as it gives us so many more options with little financial risk in the scheme of things.

Who would have thought the day would come when we were linked to van persie and even more so be in a position to maybe say no. Personally I'd say no not because of injuries or lack of skill, but motivationaly I don't think he would be to bothered to be here. He's not in form at fenerbache and makes good money in the sun sitting on the bench. So would he really want to be here ? All that aside its different when a player is offered out by there club to others, says it all really.

Those who have had past glories but now in the twilight of their careers are probably best avoided. Adebayor was a prime example for us last year. Obviously I would love to have seen van Persie in the red and blue but I think we should be looking for younger and more hungry players now.

Before the cup final he was involved with our last 5 goals, you could see the quality and the only striker we had who could play with his back to the goal and always looking to get on the ball. Okay wages were a bit high but not a bad signing to have in the squad for 6 months of last year.

No - hopefully we have learned something from getting players in their twilight years - none of whom have worked out.
