This was the main Obama point. That a deal between us and them would take many years to implement if we leave the Union. No good to those employees and business's here now that will be affected negatively by a Leave vote, is it?

1. Neither does the EU - what is your point?
2. What a ridiculous and semantic point - the US 40bn sold "via the EU" - that is the only mechanism permitted under our current shackles. So we shouldn't refer to US-UK trade as such, because it must go via the EU? Yeah.... ok.
3. We haven't had a trade deal with the US (thanks again, EU) for the last 40 years. Exactly what will change for those "negatively affected employees" if we leave, and don't have a trade deal set up, as is the status quo?

Our natural role in life is to interpret Americans for other cultures. They aren't so hot at that themselves. As such, they like to use the UK as a staging post for the rest of Europe.

It is in the interests of the US that the UK stays in the EU. I guess they can say that if they want, albeit the effect of saying it could backfire on them. They don't understand us much better than they understand the rest of the world, 'two nations divided by a common language'.

It's President Obama who is saying this. If you look at what has come out of the US Trade Commission (IIRC), they have said it should be relatively easy to do a trade deal with Britain.

Like f***....

Maybe not but it is The United STATES. They were individual states that fought a war to become a federal block, which is now the worlds biggest super power.

They already did it.

Mr Obama has clarified his remarks. He said what he meant was that the UK would not be able to negotiate something with the USA faster than the EU but the USA is only in talks with the EU, hence there is no queue to be at the back of.In actual fact the deal between the USA and the EU has stalled anbd it is possible that it could collapse altogether.

Opening up the UK economy to trade with the USA and others is paramount to economic growth post-Brexit as you know. To make Brexit worth it in essence. But how long would these deals take to arrange? Years and years. And once this long task was achieved it would also mean exposing UK firms and their workers to whole new levels of competition from low-cost countries.

Your tone perhaps reflects your own 'out' doubts? You don't need to win every piddling argument.

One thing to note is that while a President may negotiate a trade deal with any country or alliance, the US Senate must ratify that deal. Given the way things are going these days, Palace has a better chance beating Barcelona, Paris St Germain and Bayern Munich in consecutive away matches. Of course, I'd predict Palace wins for all of them in the Prediction League. Can anyone say "nil pointe?"

He has every right to say what he wants, and gullible people will take/heed his warnings.

Boris and the rest of us also have a right to reply and point out that he is a blatant hypocrite and obvious scaremonger.

This debate gets dirtier by the day.

Boris didnt reply with any sense just a load of racist bollocks about him hating collonialism because Boris is an out of touch posh t***

You're going to wet yourself when Marine Le Pen rocks up then.

It's funny that Teresa May isn't so keen to have her entry blocked as she was when Geert Wilders wanted to come to the UK. I wonder why that could be?..

Obama was right to voice his opinion, wrong to use not so veiled threats.

Boris acted like a brat. Neither party comes out of it particularly well.
