If adebayor hits the ground running than we've got a good signing on our hands I personally think we should get rid of the January transfer window because all we ever hear from managers up and down the country is how hard it is too get in players so why don't we just have the summer one get in the players in the summer and go with what you have until the end of the season most teams now have bigger squads so if teams get injuries they have got others to bring in

The Jan transfer window is always a tough one, teams over pay and we are lucky to have a board who know what they're talking about. As SP said, the higher up the league you go, the smaller the market becomes, your competing with world class teams. Its no secret we need to improve in areas, but what we needed improve on quickly was upfront, and we have. EA could do very well for us. Other improvements can be made in the summer when we can truly evaluate the season as a whole and we know what were dealing with a bit more. Its over now, so lets just get behind the boys!

Randall Williams will be the next Jamie Vardy, you heard it here first!

Well said! Many posts have indeed referred to lack of quality service to our forwards as evidenced by the fact that only one goal has been scored to date this season by a striker and that was Wickham's penalty.

Is correct, I've said that on a number of occasions, and that is born out by the lack of goals from our front men, if they don't get the service "and they dont" they are going to find goals hard to come by.

Lets hope that Adabayor gets the service he will need, unfortunately our strikers are forced to go foraging for the ball far to much, therefore they are out of position 99% of the time.

You can only do an evaluation at the end of the season. Whilst buying x, y and z player may seem great to some now will they actually perform as expected - that is the question still to be answered.

Generally foreign imports take six months to get acclimatised to this league - Souare joining last January is a perfect example.

The bottom clubs have, rather obviously, been the most active.

Newcastle - spent loads but not one defender and that is where they have real problems. Likely going to be good to watch for the next few months but whether they win enough remains to be seen. However, I think they will survive...just.

Bournemouth - Grabban for 7m - really? Afobe has made a quick start but will it continue? I hope they stay up though as they are always entertaining.

Sunderland - Their record at buying centre backs this past five years has been nothing short of atrocious. Now another two arrive and both from overseas. How they work out will determine whether Sunderland stay up or not - I am betting on the 'or not' bit.

Norwich - Some quite good buys but 'quite good' will unlikely be good enough to keep them up. I do rate Pinto but the rest are very average.

Aston Villa - Everyone knew they were already down so they spent this window convincing their own squad that this is the case.

Swansea - May well have been lulled in to a false sense of security by wins at home to Watford and then away at an Everton team who had both eyes on their LC semi-final. Really they have only swapped Shelvey for Fer and got in Alberto Paloschi of whom I know nothing.

For us, well, we needed a striker and we got one, a very good one. I am happy enough and look forward to some quality signings this summer.

So around eighty million spent by Newcastle; Norwich; Sunderland and Bournemouth with two of them likely to go down. As I said at the beginning it will be interesting to evaluate at the end of the season.

Brilliant assessment, couldn't agree more

I do understand that Palace need to build in a carefully measured way and SP doesn’t want to splash the cash on any old waste of space and we have done brilliantly since he has been in charge. I do however wonder if we actually have a scouting network. From what AP said in his presser yesterday, it sounded as though SP was single-handedly working on finding players and bringing them to AP’s attention. AP considered there was nobody who would improve the squad, so basically SP achieved nothing through all his efforts.

We have signed some good players recently, but we never seem to find that next Ighalo – someone that is previously relatively unheard of who turns out to be pretty special. Why can’t we do that? I thought Everton were having a quiet transfer window, but yesterday they signed a 25-year old forward from Lokomotiv Moscow. I know he cost 13.5M and I suppose he could turn out to be a dud, but Everton had been tracking him for a while, so they should know what he is about. The only player we’ve signed that I would remotely put into a similar category would be Souaré. We were unsure about him to start with, but he has turned out pretty well. Cabaye doesn’t count because he was well known to AP.

Everton aren’t the only ones to have pulled off some interesting signings. Of course I don’t know the fees or the wages involved in each case, but there are a few players picked up by fellow PL sides that might turn out to be useful acquisitions. As an example, strikers Emineke (to West Ham, loan) and Paloschi (Swansea), attacking midfielders Khazri (Sunderland) and Naismith (Norwich), a number 10 Amrabat (Watford) and central defenders Kone and Kirchhoff (Sunderland) and Klose (Norwich). Admittedly, apart from Naismith, they are all untested in the PL.

During the transfer window we get linked by the press to some amazing players – players that get us fans really excited with the prospect of them playing for us, but at the same time players that cost upwards of £20M and are also being linked to the top PL sides (and of course Newcastle). These players won’t be joining Palace, certainly not in the near future.

We fans really know that the players we are most likely going to end up with (if anyone at all) are players clubs are trying to offload, free agents and players either nearing the end of their career or plying their trade in a lower division. OK, I know that’s harsh, because we have signed some decent players that don’t fit into those categories and I’m excited to see what Adebayor can do for us, but just occasionally it would be refreshing to find that real gem and we don’t even seem to make a very good use of the loan market. I’m just disappointed that we haven’t strengthened to the extent I hoped we would this time round and I hope we don’t come to regret it.

Surely the most underwhelming transfer window period known in the club's history, as well as for many other Premiership teams?

At least we didn't all wake up this morning to find we've signed Shefki Kuqi!

Adebayor not only for £0.00 but also with 25% of his (admittedly considerable) wages subbed for the rest of the season. Could well turn out to be an amazing deal, if we'd bought say Berahinho instead we'd be out £25m before he'd even put his shorts on.

Nobody leaving except Bamford who was sh!te. Not only that but managed to get him dumped on Norwich.

Could be about to rediscover Gayle, Lee and maybe Mutch. Puncheon looking on the way back up. Normal service resumed with Hennesey.

Service to the forwards needs to be addressed on the training ground and in tactics. Not with the chequebook.

Agreed, at the moment that is our nemesis.
