I wouldn't mind a punt on Rhodes. He his 26 next month so needs to kick start his career. Just looked at his record 181 goals in 337 games, pretty impressive. He would be a rarity at our club as well, a striker who knows where the net is.

The lad does know we're the net is! Interesting but Blackburn want to take Danny Graham on loan from Sunderland!

According to Sky Sheffield Wednesday are asking after him at 12mil. If so many championships clubs after him should we go for it ?

Whilst I like Rhodes I think £12mil is silly money for a player who's never played at Premier League level. If he's worth £12mil then arguably Gayle's worth something equal to that. He also hasn't done a lot in a Scotland shirt over the last few years. However having said that McArthur being dropped for Scott Brown says a lot about their set-up!

I have always liked Rhodes. I would not be upset if we bought him. I think he would do great for us. Unfortunately, I wouldn't pay 10 m for him, 6 or 7 maybe. I'm probably out of step with everyone else but I would have gone for him long ago. He will score more often than not. I pretty much agree with this. I'd rather have Dembele from Fulham if we're going to sign a Championship player but the issue with Rhodes is that he's going to require a fee in excess of his real value for a player who'd be a gamble. Plus, I think we'd have to significantly change our tactical approach to get the best out of him and I doubt we are willing to do that. I think Pards not only wants a forward, but a certain type of forward. Anyway, at 5-6 million it'd be worth it. At 10 million, really not. As an addendum, think about it this way: Rhodes is going to cost you say 9 million in transfer fees and a 3 year contract at around 50k a week (at a guess) for a player unproven at this level. Adebayor is going to cost you nothing and a 6 month contract at maybe 80,000k a week for a proven Premier League player. So all in all, you're gambling 16 million on Rhodes versus a little over 1 million on Adebayor. And if that one million doesn't pan out, you've got the other 15 million to spend in the summer when there's a better market. Rhodes is too much for someone unproven unless Pards believes he is the real deal. Edited by sydtheeagle (17 Jan 2016 7.54am) Good post but personally, even though Rhodes could cost us more money in the medium to long term, he would be a much better investment as I think he would do really well for us. In terms of the tactical changes needed to get the best out of him, maybe a slight tactical change is what we need as well. But 12m is too much for him still. If we could get him cheaper, all good.

Good player- worth a risk and a Premier league team will buy him at some point but definitely over priced.

Rhodes can score all types of goals, with his head, both feet, volleys etc. He is always looking to get across a defender when attacking a cross and wins headers against bigger defenders due to his clever movement.Works for the team and puts defenders under pressure. Always on the move so is difficult to mark.Very good touch but he is not the quickest and a few years back when Michael Appleton was in charge he wanted him to be better holding the ball up.It was Steve Kean who signed him for Blackburn for a fee of up to £8 Mill.

Rhodes scores the majority of his goals alongside a strike partner. He's not the best at playing up top on his own. With that in mind I don't think he'll be the best fit for us.

Good player- worth a risk and a Premier league team will buy him at some point but definitely over priced. But this is the thing, and it's a real question. Despite scoring for fun at Championship level, no Premier League team has showed any real interest in buying him. In fact, it now looks like he's going to Sheffield Wednesday. Why is this? It seems fairly clear that despite his exploits, Premier League clubs don't think he's up to it at the top level and given the number of teams who desperately need a striker I have to think that tells you something. My guess is that if JR plays in the Premier League, it will probably be with a promoted side.

Blackburn are finalising a season long loan for Danny Graham of Blunderland so it looks like someone has met Blackburn's valuation

Didn't we get offers for Gayle at around the £9M mark? Not a million miles away. Off-load Gayle and sign Rhodes plus Adebayor on loan. And that my friends would be a great window.. That'll see us through to the summer somewhere in the top half. Don't sign at least one decent striker and there's no reason we'll stay in the top half.
