Dear Cloughy Freedmans Footballing philosophy was best described in a radio interview I remember when he said: "You start with a point every match and you have to at least keep it! " Basically that if you don't concede you always gain a point and you have gained something.....,

Amazing signings Delaney, Bolasie and Ward ( all for peanuts) are still the heart beat of our team and we honestly struggle if any are missing to this day. As willo mentioned the signings of Moritz, Gardener and especially Murray were master strokes and players that in my opinion were exceptional in their time at Selhurst.

A very good coach, scout, motivator in my opinion I agree maybe still hasn't got the know how yet to get a promotion but your in very good hands. Also despite the consensus that he is a dour gaffer the couple of month run from losing at Bristol City to going top of the league at Peterborough (I think ) in our promotion season, was some of the best football I've seen in my 30 years supporting palace and I attended every game in that run ( I think only surpassed by our Football under Steve Bruce and Pardiola at the moment)

Good luck at forest a truly great club! I will never forget my memories of the city ground as a kid with Stuart Pearce saluting the crowd when he scored a free kick against us with the biggest thighs I've ever seen and John Salako lobbing one in from the half way line in the last minute in a cup tie in early 90s. I think after the initial game had been postponed due to fog that came down on the Trent 10 minutes before kick off. I had bunked school, got the train up and ended up grounded for a game that never actually happened ha, ha.

Thanks for the kind words Georgey .

I too travelled up for that postponed game . Those were the days when the FA Cup actually caused a frissom of excitement amongst all football supporters .. How times have changed !.

Yes Psycho was lethal from free kicks around the penalty area and scored many a fine goal for us . A natural born leader of men who sadly lacked the special ingredient to become a top class manager ..

I've always greatly enjoyed our games against Palace both at the City Ground and at your place . Seem to recollect there being open and attractive football played by both teams..

Clough

I have a recollection of coming up to Forest to see Palace play in the Simod Cup.It was an evening game and we lost in extra time. The Police kept us in after the game to allow the home supporters to disperse.

As others have said, great at spotting talent. He also got Wilf his first start after mentioning to Paul Hart(Forest connection) that he had seen him as a kid in our academy during our last administration(shudder!) and thought he was worthy of a game. Dougie used to spend time going to Italy and learning the defensive side of the game taking in lectures and games. When he came in after Burley he done what was required,20th in league, with 12 games being won or lost by the odd goal and 8 draws.Following season 17th and a semi-final in the FA Cup,but again only 13 wins and a run of 9 end of season games without a win. This is when we as fans got irritated with his tactics! The following season started with 3 league losses and a drubbing in the cup by Brizzle City(where the infamous tete a tete took place dans la car park). Things changed and next 11 games no losses and 8 wins. But then Bolton came a-calling. Dougie has had 5 years now as a manager and seems to be learning well under constraints.I wish him well and one day success will come, hopefully it's with your boys Clough! Ollie's Dad,Ash.

Yes we started his final season with 3 league losses, one of which was to Bristol City. The cup match to which you refer was Preston where we lost 4-1.

You inferred that he was in charge for the next 11 games but I think that for the last few of those games, Lennie Lawrence and then Curtis Fleming were 'Caretakers' before they left to join him.

Was that free kick of Pearce's when we lost 5-0, it was hammering it down with rain, and we were on a terrace, in the corner, similar to how it used to be at Selhurst? Late 80's I think. I hated that day!

Thanks again for your reply's gentlemen . Maybe our owner Fawaz Al Hasawi needs to have a word in his " shell like " to encourage a more attacking style of play once our strikers are fit .. Unrest seems to be growing amongst our supporters.

Good luck for the remainder of the season .
