As far as centre backs go i'd also look at signing Grant Hanley from Blackburn. why? He was scott Danns defensive partner at Blackburn and i think he is 23 and a scottish international so like Caulker would have time to improve and is at the right age.

When we signed Damo and Bolasie when were near the bottom of the Championship. Aren't we looking for a bit more proven quality now? If he signs and plays well fantastic, I think he has been poor for a while now and is a big gamble. How can you call him a "big gamble" when you have no idea what he'll cost? If we get him for a small fee, he's not going to be a gamble at all, is he? Damo made his debut for us on October 4th 2012 against Burnley. The win took us to fourth place in the table. Is that "near the bottom" of the Championship these days? Caulker is a former international and once very high quality prospect whose career has been derailed by playing for two simply awful clubs under clueless owners and managers. Yes, he hasn't shone. Want to name a single Cardiff or QPR player who has recently? The worst that can be said of him is that he's made some pretty poor decisions about who to join. Plus, he's still young. OK, he hasn't displaced Van Dijk or Fonte at Southampton but they're both quality players; that doesn't tell us he's not any good. There is everything to like here. Experienced, talented, the right age but career a bit off track. He has exactly the sort of profile that often succeeds at Palace and he's really not likely to cost an awful lot.
He is on big wages. That was the reason he didn't join us when he joined QPR. The way I see it is if we weren't good enough then, then he can go feck himself now. Looks like he wants a part of it now that we're successful.

He was a decent player at Cardiff, but then Redknapp got his hands on him - offered him to much and the rest as they say is history! Hopefully he 's learnt his lesson, and if Pardew went for him I'd be extremely confident that he could get him back to the form of his Cardiff days and make him the ideal and partner for Dann.

Caulker has been his usual poor standard in the couple of games I've seen for The Saints.the 6-1 loss at St, Marys vs. Liverpool in the cup(at fault for 3 goals)he was shocking,Man City 3-1 loss(as sub)at fault for last goal. Been on the bench a few times. Consistently poor overthe last 3 seasons or so! Ollie's Dad,Ash. This. Relegated in the worst defense with Cardif, followed it up with the same at QPR (after turning us down) and not doing that well at the Saints...

Seemingly fits the bill of being a (relatively young) British player that we're looking for. Always thought highly of him but he's never seemingly delivered for one reason or another...we have a knack of bringing the best out of players. A Yes for me Edited by Lyons550 (30 Dec 2015 10.37am)

Sounds like a perfect Palace signing - isn't this just what Palace is all about - rescue a decent player who has gone astray. Make him good again, he becomes one of us and someone else who loves the club (only got to look at Chamakh as a perfect example). we're not miracle workers. I'd like someone more proven (for once), especially considering how important his position is

A NO from me, he lacks decent positional play which is essential for a centre back and tends to be caught flat footed when the ball is in the air..............otherwise quite good

I think it's attitude and not talent as far as he's concerned. I get the impression he's psychologically weak and lacks discipline and concentration. Very difficult to change that. With Dann we have a very very good footballer who has that mental strength. Damo isn't so good on the ball but he's extremely disciplined and humble enough to understand his limitations.

Pretty sure he bas turned us down twice, but personally feel this would be a good move. He is still young and has room to improve and would strenghten our backline. He could form a strong partnership and could learn a lot from dann delaney and hangeland regarding comittment and throwing your body in the way of oncoming shots. This appeals to me more so than the stuttgart defender we were linked with.

we clearly need a younger centre back as whilst excellent DD is getting on a bit (as is Hanngeland) and Caulker fits the bill in many ways, however, i think he's on £60k a week at QPR so that's a massive outlay on wages on a 3 or 4 year contract. Not that many alternatives though - i do like Hanley too, but he lacks a bit of pace which may be an issue in the prem

Dann's new contract signed in July, which he has earned, is rumoured to be £65k per week. Caulker is not at that level and the stupidity of QPR is the only reason he is on £60k. If I were SP I would offer, at the most, what we were willing to pay him when he joined QPR. Was it £50k? Or was that the Sigurrdson wage offer? Caulker's transfer value has fallen from £8mil to £5mil because there's an awful lot of work to do. That should be the pitch to his agent. Earn a new contract and you'll get it. Or stay at QPR and run your contract down outside of the Prem. He isn't doing the business in the Prem and to present, hasn't done the business. We have more strength in this negotiation than someone who wants Prem football but either doesn't get picked or hasn't performed.
