Every year it winds me up, when every mug under the sun wants to go down the nearest over-crowded O'Neils and drink a pint of Guinness to celebrate St Paddy's Day. If you're actually Irish, then fair play to you and you should go wild But everyone else doesn't have a clue about Ireland, have never been and most don't even understand the flag. It's one big commercial gain for Guinness who have marketed the day to become as popular and profitable as it is.

Don't follow the sheep, stay in on Wednesday night and drink Guinness all year round like me . And if you want to celebrate a patron saint's day, get smashed on April 23 - St George's Day One day, we may even get a national holiday for it like other countries!

Edited by Penge Eagle (15 Mar 2004 10:58pm)

Totally agree with you Penge, really pisses me off how this country dosen't celebrate St Georges day, I mean fcuk the Paddys & Taffs & whoever elses day some of the English celebrate we should bloddy get St Georges day as a day of celebration.

I always fly my St Georges cross with pride on the 23rd & I wish more people would aswell.

Sorry to rant but I'm passionate about my country and every pub etc.. I walk past has bloody St Patriks day being advertised, you can gurante there will be nothing when St Georges day comes round.

St George's day (April 23rd) would be an ideal and fitting date

No it wouldn't - it's too close to Easter and the May Day holiday. We desperately need a bank holiday in October / November time - what about celebrating with a national day then? I'm not saying don't celebrate St. George's Day, it's just inconveniently placed.

Goodness is what you do. Not who you pray to.
