I am currently in Sao Paolo on business and it was on the TV sports news channel this morning that he's hoping to go to the Premier League.

My Portuguese is not so good but I did hear a reference to Palace..... just not sure exactly what they said.

He's a bit of a legend here, apparently.

Can't quite decide if it would be amazing or exactly the sort of signing QPR would make.

It IS exactly the sort of signing QPR would make, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't work. There's a vast gulf in context between a newly promoted side with an irresponsible owner who has no consistent strategy in the transfer market and ends up with a bunch of mercenaries playing for themselves and an established side with a strong dressing room culture and a plan to progress.

Whereas signing the likes of Pato was the norm at QPR, for us he'd be a wildcard; the icing on the cake that would be brilliant if it worked but who could be rapidly dispensed with for no loss if it didn't. Where QPR were relying on the likes of Pato to come through and save them, we wouldn't be. If we rejuvenated him it'd be a massive plus but if it didn't work the downside would be minimal. Therefore, bringing him in is a move with a high ceiling and relatively little risk.

With that in mind, I'd do it. The potential upside is enormous. The downside is really very small.

Would love this to happen but looks like a non starter as well as Austin and Williams. Parish quotes not really putting a smile on my face

Parish comments not putting smile on your face?

We have tied down Scott Dann, bought Cabaye loaned Bamford the championship player of the year, on the verge of a keeper upgrade and still 2 more signings after McCarthy to come!

You dont want much do you??

Of the three aounds the most promising. I bloody hope we get him I saw his Brazil Debut at the Emirates against Sweden and have always loved him as a player. Also he looks exactly like my brother

having pato, gayle, murray and bamford we'd be set for the season

give him a run of games and you'll see his class, the guy was said to be the next big thing for a reason, pards needs to do what he did with wilf and install some confidence and we would have to signing of the summer on board, without a shadow of a doubt.

these 4 strikers are all good finishers with other attributes to their games. I would be ecstatic if this was to happen.

Not saying I'm not happy with what we have achieved so far. Completely the opposite. But the fact that we arnt going to be signing any of these targets is a shame. Would have loved one of these to happen. That's all

I think there is an element of risk to it. From my best Google research he's on somewhere between 60-80k a week still. Given his pedigree as a seasoned Brazilian international and a former Milan player, coupled with the fact that his agent has been touting him around Europe trying to find the best offer, I can't see him coming much more cheaply.

With that in mind, he represents a real element of risk to me when considering his injury record, his reputation for going out partying a lot and the fact that his current chairman is so keen to get shot of him that he said "Everyone knows that Corinthians, pretend, want and pray day and night to sell Pato. Next year he has to perform and respect what he agreed to. The choices are his, not mine".

You're right when you say it's a move with a potentially high ceiling but I just feel you've undersold the pitfalls slightly and I'd hate our team spirit to be disrupted because we've got some marquee signing on big wages who is out injured all the time or not working as hard as the rest of the squad.

Agree with most of that. The only two counter points I would make are that a). I trust Parish to structure any deal in such a way that it would protect our interests if he "did a Kebe" and b). Given the strength of our dressing room, I am not overly worried about disruptive interests because I think they'd soon be sorted out. With all that said, I am pretty indifferent to him signing. I wouldn't be unhappy if he arrived, but he's not one I'm sitting by the radio hoping for news on.

There is one other thing neither of us have mentioned and that is the value signing a player like Pato would bring to establishing us as a more visible brand/destination for players. Although it's ephemeral, if a player like Pato did join us it would open the eyes of other top players with regard to Palace being an acceptable or desirable club to join. I think signing Cabaye and even Bamford has had the same effect. We all know we're not going to compete for Top 4 players but if we can be at the front of the queue for the next level -- which we were not a year ago -- then it will help us to push on.

Yep I can't fault any of that, especially about trusting Parish to protect our interests.
