One of two things seems clear. Either a). Pardew simply does not fancy Hennessey, or b). that he has a good enough offer for Hennessey (from WBA?) and can bring in Krul for less money than WH that he thinks the deal makes sense financially without sacrificing ability at the position. It also seems pretty obvious that Jules will not start the season in possession of the number one shirt unless either WH or Krul totally fails to displace him in pre-season. My sense is that WH will probably go and Krul will probably come in to replace him, giving us what Pards believes is a better keeper for the same (or less) money when everything is taken into account (transfer fee plus wages). I feel a bit for WH...like Guediora he really has not been given a chance. But that said, Krul is a proven quantity at Premiership level and WH is not.
I can't put a finger on why exactly, but I do have my doubts around WH. And it seems first Pulis and now Pardew have as well.

People forget how poor Jules was when he made his first few appearances.

Personally I can see Krul deal coming off Am I right in recalling that a couple of years ago, Krul was everybody's flavour of the month and tipped for a top four side. The same was true of Hangeland before injuries hit him. I think in Krul we may be getting a steal. He's only 27, he is absolutely proven class, and in a decent team he could provide many years of high-level service. However good you think Hennessey might be, the fact is Krul is that good now.

Newcastle fans gave him a bit of a slagging last year (unlike those magnificent Geordies to turn on their team and players I know) but I suspect that's more to do with the fact that he had absolute unmotivated, tactically confused and dispirited players in front of him as much as anything if his performances dipped. Whenever I have seen him he has always looked good. Commanding and a good shot stopper for a big man get down really well - like you say could be a steal. Dutch International standard keeper - yes please.

Confidence is important for a keeper, so no doubt picking the ball up out of your net so often game after game, with no hope of winning is going to knock you big time, but I don't think he's any better than Jules, or on the basis of what I've seen, Wayne Hennessey. Wayne Hennessey will likely weigh up his options this season, maybe push for a few more games, but the problem all our 2nd goal keepers have had, is that Julian Speroni, whilst not necessarily the best keeper in the league, is incredibly consistent and reliable, playing almost every game each season since making the number 1 shirt his.

I think our money could and should be spent elsewhere. Having Jules and WHennessey battling it out for the number one spot (especially with Jules' consistency and sound performances) is admirable if not enviable to perhaps half of the premier league. I am not sure about Krul. Was it just Newcastle's defence? I don't remember an outstanding performance from him last season. Mind you, I thought he was brilliant in the World Cup at saving penalties, but, coming from Newcastle at the moment is a "no thanks". Give Hennessey a chance if there are doubts about Jules; what has WHennessey done wrong? Wales are an upcoming shout about team and three games ago he was on fire and [deservedly] got man of the match for Wales because of his heroics. Of course, if it makes sound financial sense i.e. selling Hennessey to Pulis and getting Krul = a profit, then so be it. If not lets get two bloody good international stand out performers whereby people take us more seriously. I don't think getting Krul is going to gain that fear or respect. AP Did say he didn't think our Goalkeeper area needs tightening and was not on his list of priorities. For me I hope he sticks to his word and is banging down the door at CPFC 2010 to get some 'fantastic' signings

He was then out injured and only came back to the stinking ship after Pards left. He's a proven PL and international commodity and arguably as good a shot stopper as Jules. Just recall his heroics at WHL in 2013. A good upgrade if he's available, but I don't see it as a wash financially if WH is sold; the respective valuations are too far apart.

Rather than having doubts about him I think that Speroni upped his game so much that he became undroppable which is why Hennessy has hardly had a look in

start WH. if he underperforms, throw JS back in. if that's not going well, grab someone in the winter transfer window. spend the good money on striker(s).

If Pulis has doubts about Hennessy why is he trying to buy him now as all of the media is suggesting. Rather than having doubts about him I think that Speroni upped his game so much that he became undroppable which is why Hennessy has hardly had a look in I don't think Pulis had doubts about Hennessey at all. He was bought in the January window at a time Speroni was having the season of his career. He'd been a long term solid performer but Jools had never had a season like the one before last and last season, when he was not bad but his performance was nowhere near the year before, underlined the point. I think Pulis bought WH with every intention of playing him this year and had Pulis stayed, I think Wayne might well have won the shirt. But coming in the January window and with Speroni having the season he was, both manager and player were happy to let him slowly bed in to the club in those first six months. The fact that he didn't play much thus means nothing in terms of Pulis' view of him and the fact that he's interested in him now says it all.
