I went into some Immigrant Detention Centres this week, Prison Ministry. Putting aside anyones feelings about the 'religious' aspect of why I was there, what I found was quite enlightening. Some hardened criminals, who were totally cognizant of them deserving to be booted out, but also some cases like Faisal. Faisal was a 23 year old Algerian, came here when he was 8. Both parents long dead, he had done a series of dead end Mc Jobs, before getting into trouble with the police and going to prison. Leaving prison he was picked up by Immigration, and was now waiting to be booted to Algeria, a country and a culture completely alien to him. In such cases its quite usual for the 'bootee' to end up dead within 6 months. Immigration is never 'Black and White' in my view and this just confirmed it.

With all due respect this thread has done nothing more than show that some people need to get a grip regarding their 'immigrant status'.

On an individual case like that it all sounds lovely but a government has to take the view of what's best long term to protect the infrastructure, housing and all other things that make the country tick smoothy. Sorry no sympathy, my country comes first. Edited by dannyboy1978 (05 Apr 2015 10.05pm)

Could he not have been returned sooner? Maybe would've stood even less of a chance in life as a teenage tearaway in Algeria but then that's not really the sort of immigration we should be encouraging. The story is probably applicable to a decent portion of British born teenagers who we can't reform or deport either. When we have the solution to that and a few more of our own issues we may be able to reevaluate. And regarding his life expectancy back home, I'm assuming this is through the extreme poverty he had a chance to escape?

Oh my, some right t***s on here. Have a bit of human discinity. Yes not everyone was born in this country but believe it or not, they arent scum from wanting a better life for themselves. Not all come her and claim every benefitnpossible whilst being given a house etc. A lot come here and work harder than the millions of British on the f***ing dole. They earn less then them but at least they arebpaying their taxes and rent.

How is a couple of racist comments a huge problem? In any country there will be a large amount of anti-foreigner sentiment. It's part of nationalism and if you think any differently then you're in denial. There will NEVER BE a country that wholeheartedly embraces immigrants because that's not how humans are programmed. If you disagree, i suggest you look at several studies done focusing on inherent empathy in the infant mind. Many immigrants are not the humble, hardworking, innocent type that was mentioned in the original post. Many are unskilled, and not accustomed to even live in a first world country and, instead of working, beg for a living on the side of the road. I see them every day. Get over it. Man up. This is normal. Thanks for the advice. When I'm living in Thailand I've got to go to immigration every 60 days and then 30 days after i have to leave the country. So count yourself lucky you only need to go to a police a police station for your visa. This was also the same when I had a job over there and was paying taxes. Also if i have a road traffic accident 90% of the time over here it is the foreigners fault regardless. This happened to me last April where i was stationary on a bike and a another vehicle ploughed in to me. When the police came I had to pay for his damages. I get called a farang every day by locals. Some people are now saying farang is a racial slur. Am I bothered? No I'm not, its there country, there rules. If I don't like it I can leave but its still a better way of life for me than it is in the UK. Edited by cpfc_chap (06 Apr 2015 7.45am)

It's unfortunate you were racially abused twice kersal, racism comes in all colours & has nothing to do with ukip. Ukip are not shutting the door to immigrants, it is their intention to fill gaps in our workforce from abroad. This is where the anti ukip brigade are going wrong, rather than screaming racist & flapping arms around on forums, smear campaigns & disturbing pub dinners all that moronic boring s***, they should really be going for other parts of the ukip manifesto, instead it's the usual bollocks of attacking something that actually makes a lot of sense.
The mountains are calling & I must go. |
