Heard a rumour a few months back that maybe he is buying one of the new properties overlooking Newbury Racecourse, only 35 minutes down the A34 to Southampton.Lousy journey to Beckenham.

He's from Hungerford. 10 minutes down the M4 from Newbury. I wouldn't read too much into that investment!

I blow hot and cold on Charlie Austin but I now think most of his negatives can be directly related to his being a pretty good striker in a crap team!. I think we could promise him more at Selhurst as we have the potential to provide a pretty good service from the flanks.

With the poor service our wide players provide, he'd be lucky to score in a whorehouse.

I know you said potential, but that's our biggest failing I think, bolasie and wilf are lively but are awful in the final 3rd at times when it comes to crossing or laying the ball off to a team mate!!
Austin is a yes from me, but dare I say cash in on Bolasie and get a wide player in as well who can actually get the ball to him

I agree, or AP needs to work with both Bolasie and Zaha during the close season and get them using their obvious skills to the advantage of the team, with a better quality of ball from them into the danger area we will score more.

Really they waste all their good work with poor execution of the delivery, that must be improved, when they don't or can't then time to move them on.

Well he scored 17 times in a depraved environment this season so he has plenty of experience to offer us . How many times have you scored lately in similar circumstances?.I hope your depression is clinical because then we could cure you but there are danger signs that it might be manic in which case you will, sooner or later, go bananas. These danger signs are that you cannot understand the word " potential" and you have yet to realize that football teams and whorehouses have something in common. They both depend on the facilities they offer and the staff they employ. I was focusing beyond Wilf and Bolasie in the knowledge that "THE YANKS ARE COMING WITH LOADS OF LOLlY" so our potential for a better ground with better players is indeed great. We may have lots to offer Charlie. Go and get some treatment mate and don't dilly dally on the way!.

As much as I rate Austin we arguably have two physical front men in Murray and Chamakh. As the premier league is all about options on that basis I'd go with Ings (cheaper too) or Patrick Bamford.

Everton, Spurs and Southampton are front runners. I can see why he would choose us over Spurs [2nd fiddle to Kane] but he would be unlikely to chose us over the other 2 given there is no guarantee we won't be in the bottom half fighting a relegation battle for much of the season but, more likely, there is our restriction on wages. The club knows they have to increase these to progress; but it will be done prudently. Austin and Inge's demands will exceed what we can offer.

Regular football in this league in a good club with a good bunch of players is very tempting. Then again, so is getting double the wages. Their career is short so I am not judging. I am just saying that I will eat Paddy's marzipan hat if we sign either.

I think his ambitions will be higher than us. He will be looking for a top 10 team at least plus a higher profile to get him in the England team.
