Rather than going on strike, the bus drivers should insist all passengers ride for free. That'd make the bus companies take more notice.

Having said that, I support the strikes. The disparity in pay is amazing.

As for those saying drivers should leave and join the better paying companies... What decade are you living in?

Didn't some other union in Europe do this? Maybe the French underground, seem to remember they carried on working but simply opened all the barriers, seems like a winner

I really don't get it. There are people who do the same job as me. Some are paid more and some are paid less. If I had a huge problem with it I'd switch employers as soon as possible. This is just the way the world is and bus drivers need to just get over it. Let then keep striking and stop earning money for a pensionable days work. They don't care about the commuter and quite frankly the feeling is mutual in this matter.

Actually, let's set all the pay the same but equal to the lowest paying bus company then they are all equal and happy.

Sorted.

It's quite simple. They are using collective bargining to get a better deal for all bus drivers. They could follow your advice and some would get more and some less, but the chances of any given individual getting more is higher if they all demand higher, so from their point of view striking will work better. From your point of view, you should form a union. Thats the point of a union to get better deals for its members, not to give a monkeys about the public. Which you are quite right, they don't.

I have no intention of forming a union. I'm not well paid but I knew the salary when I took the job. If I was unhappy I'd move on.

If they want to earn more money then good for them, but to punish the commuter annoys me. So I'm certainly not going to feel bad for any bus drivers when they are bleating away on the news. If you don't like your job or the pay then get a different one.

I think there are potential topics which would justify strike action. This is not one in my opinion.

I was explaining to you why they strike to get better rates as you had said that you didn't understand.
If you don't want to try and get more money that is of course your choice and i commend your honour if not your fiscal understanding. I personally signed also a contract when i got my job, does that mean i should have turned down my payrise? What i nasty piece of work i am
I should think that your opinion is of little interest to a union of bus drivers, unless you happen to be one? But feel free to send them a letter.

I quite understand the work of unions and of strike action. I don't see how or why this is an acceptable issue to strike over. Do I think you shouldn't accept a payrise? No. Bus if you went on strike because someone at another workplace got paid more then yes I think it'd be pathetic.

I would send them a letter to the bus drivers but they're barely ever actually at work.

I don't see why or how your opinion matters?
I would go on strike anytime that i thought i had a good chance of raising my pay/conditions and don't see how others can object to this? Surely we all would?

No we wouldn't all do that.

Your reasoning of doing it because you can is the exact reasons that Unions need tougher regulation.

As for you saying my opinions don't matter well if that's the case then get off a Messageboard mate as you'll find quite a few of them.

this sort of s*** , the current state of the organisation(that wrongly uses the 'labour' monika) is the reason I stopped voting Labour after over 30 years

If I had my way, public transport would be free anyway.

that's fair enough.
you'd have to pay the drivers less though to balance the books.

I would have though it was the exact reason that we need more unions, not more regulation. And no, your opinions don't matter to the strikers because you are neither a bus driver (i assume) or the owner of a bus company.

Yes I'm aware of this. Turn the oyster machines off! That way no money is deducted from card which is the same as not paying.

I've been out and about today and gone past 3 depots where the bus w***ers (Unite) are on strike.

At each site there was a police car, with police officers sitting in it, watching nothing happen.

I do hope they're being made to pay the costs in a similar vein that football clubs are forcibly charged for it, whether they want them or not.

Sorry to crush your hope, but they are not.

Of course they aren't. Like all union actions, they only further drain public resources.

But still waaaaaaaay behind the public resources spent bailing out the bankers DUE TO THEIR GREED. And now the bankers are all rich again but you're having a gripe about those who contributed to their wealth?
'Tis indeed a funny old world.

I've posted this before [Link]

It seems that unions save employers in the private and public sectors as much £701m a year or £2m a day.

Stop believing the BS in the anti union media.

Resources that will be paid back, in full, with profit.

The use of "bankers" should now be an automatic disqualification from a coherent argument.
