Funny enough I was talking to a friend of my wifes, a Chelsea fan, last night and he claims to know Demba Ba's agent. He was saying this is an already done deal, just waiting for the transfer window to open before its confirmed. But that also sounds like half the bulls*** in the know nonsense that makes up the 'summer quiet period'.

Back to the point, I can't believe there are people who wouldn't take Demba Ba! Has such obvious quality and his record speaks for itself. Adrian B's comment ridiculous as always; can only play in highly skilled teams? Got 36 goals in 66 games combined at Newcastle and West Ham, then 7 in 33 at Chelsea...

I'm suspicious of the information myself, on the basis it sounds like all the 'my mates grans cleaners flute teachers boyfriends dads sister knows a man who' But as I never get this kind of stuff I thought I'd post it. Quite a few stories out there. Personally I can't see him signing for us, as surely he could earn more and play more elsewhere.

Also a lot of players etc tend to make the most of a month off, and aren't available - which suits agents, who can shop them around a lot more, and then come back with the options.

30 years old, high wages, little re-sale value. Nothing to do with Ba specifically but some of you need to grasp that 30 is not what it was 20 years ago. Advances in sports science, nutrition, training and general fitness have completely changed the landscape. Today, a 30 year old is often coming into his prime; not passing his sell-by date. When I was growing up, 30 was the point at which you started to think about retirement; today that point comes around five years later. An in-condition, injury-free 30 year old coming off a 15 goal season is, far from being something to bypass, a player to be coveted. Experienced, proven, and in the prime of his career. With the money we'll make from staying in the Premiership another season, I'd say re-sale value is pretty irrelevant. With that said, there's no reason we shouldn't get at least three good years out of Ba.
